[Marian Hawke]

"Shh, I don't! And lucky thing, too, because it's illegal to have magic in Golden Shores. They've put several other girls to death."

[Varric]

Varric's eyes flick over to her for just an instant. "Right, of course. Not that anyone could hear us here. Warded against scrying, alarm wards and so forth."

[Marian Hawke]

"I'm not lying, Varric, I've never shown any signs of magic, Astea's honest truth."

[Varric]

"Emma, you manifested frost during our second conversation. Not a lot, but noticable."

[Marian Hawke]

She gives a nervous laugh. "I'd think I'd remember that if I did..."

[Varric]

"Would you?" he asks bluntly. "You know you have memory problems."

[Marian Hawke]

Emma blinks. "I just don't remember older stuff. That'd be way too important to ever forget."

[Varric]

How could you tell (no-one around to check with)? Best not to plant that existential crisis (interesting puzzle) in her head. "Well, it happened so..."

[Marian Hawke]

"I think I'd remember if I was a witch!" 

[Varric]

"Who said you were a witch? That would require a pact bond with--"

[Marian Hawke]

"You know what I mean!"

[Varric]

"I clearly don't, Emma. Unless the town is so ignorant to call all arcana users witches?"

[Marian Hawke]

"yes," she hisses. 

[Varric]

"Well, that's wrong," Varric informs her, glancing up again briefly. "You're not a witch."

[Marian Hawke]

"Thank you, that's what I'm-- I"m not an arcana user, at all," she corrects.
