"But if I am leaving, why not spend your time with those that shall remain? Why waste it?"

[Coquette Blacquin]

"Is it a waste? How curious. I will still have the memory of our time together. I will still have learned anything you teach me. I will still be a slightly better person for having gotten to know you. I wonder that you call all of that a waste -- what quality of life you are used to." She smiles, reaching down to stroke his cheek. 

[Zevran]

"A slave does not have a life; it belongs to another," Zevran says quietly. He does not lean into her touch, but nor does he pull away. "Though... that does not... mean that your offer is unappealing."

[Coquette Blacquin]

"Well, then, welcome to ownership of your own life," she says firmly. "You should get used to your freedom while you're here, before you're out on your own."

[Zevran]

"I don't think I've ever truly had such before," Zevran muses. "I was not yet fourteen when my brother sold me. Being a child was far better than being a slave of course, but your life is not yours to live as you wish as thus either."

[Coquette Blacquin]

"One grows used to it, I suppose," she muses. "My life isn't bad, on the whole. Far better than life under my father."

[Zevran]

"Oh?"

"Judge Blacquin of Glaley is a hard man to live with, I suppose. I was always running off on adventures, anything to get out of the house. When I was younger he'd spank me bloody when he caught me. My mother was always disapproving, as well. I had no-one who cared for me as Varisia does."

[Zevran]

"Most would be so lucky," Zevran replies blandly. 

[Coquette Blacquin]

"She does love me. It would be far worse if she didn't."

[Zevran]

"Truly? It does not make the cut that much deeper, to have her say she loves you with one breath and then use the next to whip you?" For once, the person asking this doesn't sound like they're arguing with her on the matter, but rather trying to get her take on something he's given some thought on himself.

"If she were lying it would. But she honestly loves me. She's trying to be a better person, and bit by bit she's succeeding. I can see the changes she makes for my sake."

[The Iron Bull]

Bull snorts and rolls his eyes. Then, just to make sure, he loudly coughs.

"He doesn't see it, but I do. When I told her slavery bothered me, she stopped bringing slaves into our home, stopped trading in them at all."
