Go Down

Isabela

She nods. "It's very early, but if it was last night the pregnancy would be undetectable still. So it must have been in the past few weeks, but not last night. So you're likely correct. Will she... want to keep it?"
"Our mistakes make us who we are"

Zevran

Zevran blinks a few times, the question not having occurred to him, at least not yet. "I... I think she will, yes. She..." He winces, lips twisting. "She has two daughters she had to leave behind-- thanks be to all the Bright Gods, that's one evil that even I'm sure Varisia won't touch, but it's still going to wear on Coquette. I've no idea how she's going to handle that in the long run but I can't picture her, ah, shedding this child-to-be given... Well."

Isabela

"If she disagrees, if she wants to be rid of it... will you accept that? As her husband?" asks Isabela, looking not at Zevran but at the molding on the wall.
"Our mistakes make us who we are"

Zevran

Zevran frowns. "Accept it? Yes, of course. Unless we miraculously find a way to not only grant me a womb but also transfer the babe-to-be in the very near future, then it's not a burden I can bear and so I have little say in the matter. It would... hurt, I would not like it or agree mostlike, but I would accept it and still love and support her." His words come slowly, each one coming on the heels of the thought that births it.

Isabela

"So you are not... opposed to the concept, as so many seem to be?" she asks, almost shyly.
"Our mistakes make us who we are"

Zevran

Zevran shakes his head a little, more to allow his thoughts to change tracks than to refute her. "I am... that depends on what you mean. I am uncomfortable with doing such things; rather, I am uncomfortable that such an option is the better or best of options for some. It feels a loss, to refute a birth. And yet, sometimes it is. I suppose I take it the same as any other, ah, critical choice. And, far more often than not, a choice that I simply have no stake or right to bitch about." He shrugs as best he can while lying down, then shifts over on his side to look at Isabela.

"Coquette is my wife; despite the manner in which that occured, I am... disinclined to sever that bond. I... I am not sure I can truly, fully, say that I am in love with her, but I do love her already, if you understand my meaning. Neither of those things give me the right to... to do more than give my opinion and ask of her to take that into account when she makes her own choice. I will do what I can to support her, do what I can to make it easier to carry and birth the child if her, ah, objections are things that can be changed, but in the end? It is she that will suffer and labour to give the child a life."

Isabela

Still not looking at him, she says quietly, "I knew I couldn't give any sort of life to a child while I was building my own life. They warned me I might lose my chance at bearing one if I did, but... what was I to do? I would have been a miserable mother. I would have been as trapped as my own mother was, as cruel and shrewish."

Zevran

"Ah." Zevran takes a moment to process that, giving the matter some real thought so she can be sure he's not just blurting out something he doesn't actually think. He hums softly, then reaches out to cup her cheek. "Then it seems that, for whatever my judgement is worth, that you did right by yourself and the babe both. Going back to Ciren to wait for another chance seems far more kind than a cold childhood."

Isabela

She leans into his hand, a tear dripping down the back of it. "Thank you," she whispers. "I've never told anyone. I couldn't bear to tell them how it was conceived. So I just... pretended it never happened."
"Our mistakes make us who we are"

Zevran

"I am... familiar with that tactic, yes," Zevran says with a weak smile, gently stroking her check with his thumb. "But I have also found that sharing a burden often helps. I am glad-- and honored-- that you'd trust me with this."

Isabela

"I'm sorry, you've been through hell and here I am crying on your shoulder," she says, smiling a little. "I'm alright. It just... it took me off guard, her being pregnant and all."
"Our mistakes make us who we are"

Zevran

"There is naught to be ashamed of or regret," Zevran says firmly, rolling over even more so he's pressed right up against her side. "Life is not sweetness nor light alone. If we are to be--" He breaks off, a faint blush of all things showing. "Ah, my apologies, I seem to have made some assumptions and-- I did not mean to presume--"

Isabela

"If we are to be?" she asks, softly. "I would... if you're... you said you were enamored with your wife and with Shisou both. If you can find room in your heart for another....?"
"Our mistakes make us who we are"

Zevran

A look of regret and yet warmth accompanies a soft laugh. "A younger me believed that love and sex were both limitless and holy. I... I would like to be that man again. There is still parts of him alive and--" He huffs softly, amused and annoyed with himself for blathering on, then stretches out to kiss her tenderly.

Isabela

She keeps the kiss gentle, tender, sweet. When she pulls back, she smiles. "I'll help you," she says gently. "I'll help you be your best Zev, and you help me be my best Bela. Deal?"
