Coquette Blacquin

"Now, what under the earth would give you that impression?" she asks, batting her eyelids.

NPCs

Tenachka laughs merrily as she lifts her gaze, waving her newly freed hand in an airily dismissive gesture. "That's a very good question! Foolish of me to think such, especially after you were so kind as to share your, ah, personal seasonings with me. Such a kind, generous gesture."

Coquette Blacquin

"Funny -- my memory must be going, as I do not recall such an event. Still, it is no matter. We are friends now, and friends we hopefully shall remain."

NPCs

"Oh my yes, of course. I do so adore having dear friends. It's ever so much fun-- isn't that right, Emmaline?" Tenachka glances over at the gnome woman as she asks this, a light smile on her lips.

Emmaline's eyes widen as focus is thrust back on her. She's managed to collect herself for the most part; dress and underskirt back in place, bodice squared away, but she's leaning on the drafting table as if her legs were too weak to hold her properly. "Umm, y-yes? Of course. I-- You've been very kind to me?"

Coquette Blacquin

"How lovely." She smiles, moving in closer as if looking for a place to sit.

NPCs

"Oh, my mistake," Tenachka says after a few seconds, then rises gracefully to her feet. She heads for an unobtrusive door on one side of the room, which soon reveals itself to be a supply closet. "Hmm. Do you prefer a low padded chair or a stool?"

Coquette Blacquin

"Oh, whichever is easiest," she chuckles. "You needn't go to any trouble."

NPCs

Amazingly, the chair Tenachka retrieves is just a normal chair. Well, a high quality leather chair but normal besides. "Here we go," she says brightly as she sets it down and grabs another for Emmaline. "Now, did you have any subject or topic in particular you wished to start with? I've heard you had some trouble with your husband of late..."

Coquette Blacquin

"Oh, yes. I recognize that 'husband' is a strictly Alessian term, but perhaps we could begin with the traditional treatment of males in your community, particularly the finer points my... ex-lover... wouldn't have thought to mention?"

NPCs

"Mmh, of course, of course. Although..." She trails offer, glancing at Emmaline pointedly, who nods.

Looking-- and sounding-- much more together, the gnome clears her throat. "Point of fact, 'husband' is a concept that the gnomes of the Enclave have made sure to enshrine as being both relevant and enforced by law, as well as custom. When the marriage is to a female drow, the position has less, ah, prestige and authority but it's still a legitimate legal status."

Coquette Blacquin

"I see," she says brightly. "That may be helpful. How do gnomes punish their errant males?"

NPCs

"Well that depends on what they did? I mean, assuming it's not like a criminal act, which would be handled legally of course."

Coquette Blacquin

"Let's say, besmirched my reputation by causing trouble with another woman."

NPCs

"Umm. Well..." She frowns a little. "I guess most wives would-- wait do you mean adulatory, because that's a legal-- no, okay. Then most wives would make it clear, regardless of any damage to his reputation, that his actions were not condoned by herself to start. Depending on how bad it was, he'd be expected to put in some effort to woo away her displeasure. Essentially redoing a portion of the courting process. And make up for the damage such as he is able; appease any offended parties, generally by way of apologies or favors, or doing something in her name that increases her reputation. Charity work, an offering to a higher ranked family member of his own efforts but to her credit, that sort of thing."

"I see. And what if he mistreated a servant under me?"
