"Yes, lord. Thank you, lord." Barely managed that, but look what happened last time I sassed my superior. 

[NPCs]

"Secondly," he sneered a little as he continued, finding the next requirement from the elders to be meaningless fluff, "you are to show your dedication to your husband by renewing your vows."

[Shiori]

"...because I would not forsake my husband for a servant, I must... renew my vows to my husband? This is no hardship. I will do as commanded. Only, I am very stupid, and I do not understand the reason."

[NPCs]

"A show, to quiet those that would consider you soiled for even the hint of infidelity," he explained with a dismissive wave. "A truthing to confirm you have not strayed since your wedding, then simply repeating words you've already sworn."

[Shiori]

A pause. "Ah." Another pause. "I am very sorry, but that will not be possible. A vow renewal is of course very possible, and I will begin planning it at once."

[NPCs]

A long, heavy, silence.

"Explain."

[Shiori]

"I lied when I said he never touched me. He raped me, repeatedly."

[NPCs]

Hatamoto's expression went grave, a thin curl of bluish smoke or mist coming from the sides of his mouth. "That... complicates things," he rumbled, tone making it clear he was very unhappy when things get complicated. "Knowledge-- or even speculation-- of this would bring even more shame to the Tigers."

[Shiori]

"I will never speak of it again, my lord," says Shiori, desperately. What will he do to shut me up?

[NPCs]

As if he was speaking to himself, Hatamoto murmured, "need to bind or savage his soul. Damned necro-freaks." He sighed then, greatly put upon by the world. "You'll be given a script, some clever bullshit to evade that trap without being obvious." He narrowed his eyes at her. "Any other complications that will need to be accounted for?"

[Shiori]

"Just a servant I use for pleasure from time to time," she says, trying to sound dismissive. "Since my husband is bedridden and I am pregnant."

[NPCs]

Hatamoto scowled darkly. "He shall be removed as well then. Do not dally and open the family to shame again."

[Shiori]

Fear lances straight through Shiori. "I understand," she says, and then lies effortlessly: "it was Miyamoto."

[NPCs]

The lord nodded sharply, making a note of his name. "Good. Then for the third. You were allowed to avoid this before," and his voice rung with disapproval, "but it's clearly been shown to be needed; you will performing the Rite of Submission in a week."

[Shiori]

"yes sir. Of course sir. Will you give me precise instructions so that I may perform to your satisfaction?"
