Coquette Blacquin

"Blossom," says Coquette slowly. "How did Varisia acquire you?" Please tell me she rescued her, like I was thinking.

The Iron Bull

There's a short pause, then Blossom whispers, "I am sorry, my Lady, but I am not sure. I was not told and did not see."

"Maybe tell us how what you were there for happened?"  Bull suggests, then frowns. "I mean... How didja find out that Mistress Varisia was your new boss?"

"Mistress," Blossom corrects him automatically, though her voice remains meek and she flinches slightly right afterwards.
People don't always tell the truth when you're polite. You've gotta poke them a bit.

Coquette Blacquin

"Boss," says Coquetter firmly. "Or... did she not free you?"

NPCs

"Yes, mi'lady," Blossom replies instantly, curtsying again. There's a pause before the elf answers the question given after the correction. "I am not a slave." There's a tentativeness, a queerness, to her voice as she says that.
We are many. We are legion. We are... NPCs!

Coquette Blacquin

"Exactly," she says firmly. "You are no longer a slave. If she had not freed you, I would have. We do not hold with slavery in this household."

NPCs

"I am not a slave," she repeats in the same tone. Guess it's good she's firm on that point? Well, perhaps not firm, as she remains tentative and skittish. Perhaps dedicated would be more apt?

"Right..." Bull says slowly, eyeing her up. "Oh hey, you should get off your feet. Have a seat," he suggests, pulling out the other chair across from Coquette.

"I am not worthy of sharing a table with the Lady."
We are many. We are legion. We are... NPCs!

Coquette Blacquin

"Of course you are," she says automatically, but her brain clicks in gear as the more suspicious parts of her begin to stir. "You seem clear that you are not a slave. What would you say you are, then?"

NPCs

There's a pause, a much longer one this time. "...umm. A... An elf?" is the cautious, careful, answer.
We are many. We are legion. We are... NPCs!

Coquette Blacquin

"Good," she says, trying to sound encouraging. "Merikos, but we'll let that slide. What else?"

NPCs

There's a pause. "If you want me to be?" Blossom says dubiously, sounding confused but accepting.
We are many. We are legion. We are... NPCs!

Coquette Blacquin

"Are you... not half-human?" asks Coquette, now confused.

NPCs

Blossom shifts her weight nervously, but only minutely and only twice before retraining herself. "Do you want me to be?" she offers again, voice shaking a little.
We are many. We are legion. We are... NPCs!

The Iron Bull

The woman trembles a little. "Wh-what d-do you w-want the t-t-tr-tr--"

"Hey Boss Lady," Bull rumbles, voice booming and cheerful but with less volume than Bull is wont to use typically. "Can't help but notice you ain't finished your dinner." He reaches over and--- ruffles her hair with a broad grin firmly in place. To the side, Blossom has lifted her head enough that Coquette, displaying more of her face than the merikos drow had seen before. Her expression is that of stunned disbelief, her features plain aside from her doelike green eyes and her upper right check ruined by a twisted mess of scar tissue that might go further up or back but her hair hides that part of her from sight.
People don't always tell the truth when you're polite. You've gotta poke them a bit.

Coquette Blacquin

Coquette does the unexplainable: she sticks her tongue out at Bull. "I've eaten some," she protests. "Half a bowl! Fussbudget," she grumbles, but she picks up the spoon and eats another bite in front of him.

Swallowing, she turns her gaze back to Blossom. "You don't have to be afraid of me," she says softly. "I just want to know what's going on. Varisia does things without consulting me, frequently. I need to know what it is she's done so I can manage the household effectively. Alright? I won't hurt you, no matter what the answer is. I just want to know."
