Down at the bottom of the cart, the cook has put a small but lovely little cake with strawberries on top, clearly for the end of their mid-morning tea meal. It's just the sort of thing Coquette would love: cream, berries, and a caramel drizzle. Unfortunately, it's no longer fit to be eaten by humans, as there's a kitten with a bulging belly curled in the very center of it, having clearly just awoken from a nap after consuming about half the cake.

The Iron Bull

Bull stares another moment, then drops the cloth back down. "Yep."

Staring, Jessi shakes her head. "No..."

"Yep!"

Primera scowls at the game being interrupted but takes the bait. "Nu-uh!"

"Mrrrwww-uh!"
People don't always tell the truth when you're polite. You've gotta poke them a bit.

Coquette Blacquin

Coquette rubs at her head. "Primera, go get your kitten. Segunda, I think you were having a bath? How about Primera helps you wash your hair instead of Jessi today?"

Jessica Alton

"Bath the cat too," Bull suggests with a snort. "Sooner than later," he adds, nose wrinkling. Guess it's not unexpected, cat eating all that sugar's gonna be sick. "Before she comes out of her food coma."

"Kitten? Mmrr!" Primera's eyes light up and she flies around the cart to gather up her kitten. Not to be left out-- never to be left out-- Secunda does her toddler best to go after her older sister, instead nearly faceplanting two steps off the mark. Thankfully Cedric is still nearish the surface and manages to right things, Jessi then taking over and hefting the pouting tiefling to her hip. "I'll take them both right to the baths, then bed for a nap, C--" Her eyes flick to Zevran. "Lady Coquette."

Coquette Blacquin

"Yes, see that they get some rest." She smiles, handing the naked toddler over to Jessi, and plants a kiss on the child's forehead before sending all three of them -- and the kitten -- away.

"My apologies," she finally says, turning to Zevran. "Where were we?" She asks this honestly, seeming to have forgotten where exactly they were. "Something, let's see... my wife-- pardon, our wife..."

Zevran

"You have my pardon for her being our wife, but only because you had nothing to do with it," Zevran replies smoothly, a smile on his lips that doesn't touch the bewilderment and unease in his eyes. Bull snorts with amusement, enjoying the banter and not seeing his eyes.

Coquette Blacquin

"Are you alright?" she asks, in a kinder tone, as her eyes meet his.

Zevran

Zevran is quiet a moment, then sighs. "I am... unused to..." He has to take a moment. "To innocence. And it being treated well. Kindly. Respectfully. Gently." He meets her gaze finally. "Even when you were angry with her, even when she was crying and talking back, she was never afraid of you. Not a flicker."

She blushes, then, glancing away. "Some would say I am a soft mother, a weak one, but... I recall my own mother, and how little I knew she thought of me. I want my girls to know I think the world of them. I nearly died giving birth to Primera, and I chose to do it again. It was worth it."

Zevran

Bull stirs a little, hand clenching tightly at his side, but he lets it go. He always lets it go.

"Soft? Perhaps. But certainly not weak." His smiles grows more real. "And yes certainly loving."

Coquette Blacquin

"There is love here, believe it or not. However our origins, we have grown to be a true family."

Zevran

I suppose we do say that a woman loves her pets. "As you say," he agrees slantwise, then frowns a little. "If I may, I had been meaning to ask at some point... Your daughters, their names," he begins.

Coquette Blacquin

"Oh, they aren't named yet. It's a Drow custom: they earn names when they are seventeen, after we're certain they will remain with us. In this case, there's no worries -- nobody is aiming to steal or harm them, and we're very careful not to let any harm come to them -- but the custom remains."

Zevran

"That is..." Terrifying? Horrifying? "Interesting," he finally says. "And reassuring, that you did not decide-- or allow-- your children to be named First and Second." He grins a little, pushing himself to focus on the humor of things.

Coquette Blacquin

"No," she laughs. "Their fathers have nicknames for them, but their mothers have been using First and Second according to drow custom. When Primera is named, Segunda will become Primera."
