"Yes, we have quite the menagerie," Indou cuts in smoothly.

Ugh. I'm not sure if the stuttering stripling or the heavy-handed lout is worse... Both, together, for sure. "I see. And what other academic interests do you have? Linguistics, maths, herbalism?"

[GamesMaster]

"Linguistics? Come now," laughs Indou, taking another sip of his sake.

"M-m-m-m-math," he stammers. "S-s-s-some h-h-h-his-t-t-t-or-r-y b-b-b-but I'm b-b-b-b-ad a-a-at i-ii-i-t."

He shakes his head no, cheeks burning.

"Mayhap you should consider yourself mute then, and carry a slate board?" she asks, her intent helpful but her concern far more for her own convenience. not Shisou's. "Or, of course, if you could find a proper tutor..." She lifts a hand, a series of deft, flowing gestures finishing, 'speech there is that requires mouth not.' If she'd bothered to use both hands, it would be far less fragmented, but drow sign is rather flexible in that fashion.

"So, are you interested in him? I understand he's not top dollar but..."

"Short-liveds," Varisia says with an mostly amused eyeroll. "So impatient. Hmmm." She cocks her head to the side, finger tapping her hip as she thinks. "I'm here for the next two days at least, waiting for the providence tests." She looks over at Indou, asking, "I think perhaps I shall invite my wife to join me for that time, and perhaps a day or two more. Might you be willing to excuse Shisou from his duties during that so he can act as our local, ah, expert? Tour guide, if you will? And get to know him better, of course."

Indou looks amused by the idea of Shisou having duties. "Of course."

Varisa graces him with a bright smile, then turns her attention back to Shisou. "And you? What do you think of that idea?"

[Shisou]

Shisou swallows, looking terrified. "I w-w-w-w-w-ould l-l-l-l-l-love t-t-t-t-to."

Varisia arches an eyebrow. "I understand those before me might have preferred otherwise, but I would rather you speak nothing or an unwelcome truth than to expect me to swallows such a blatant lie. What do you think of my plan?"
