"Of course," she says indulgently. "And what of yourself? What plans or ambitions do you have? What vein or seam do you follow?"

"I never again want to be put into a position where my wife disposes of me. I would much rather end the match myself, by any means necessary. I would go to great lengths for a home in which I was treated with the respect I deserve. I am quite skilled, quite competent, fluent in multiple languages, and have endeavoured to be a good wife. There was no call to treat me so wretchedly. I won't be treated that way again."

"You have some fire in you," Feythal notes blandly, one corner of her mouth quirking upwards. "What three jobs or roles would you be most capable of doing?" she demands abruptly, a note of command in her voice prompting a swift, clear and concise response.

"Wife. Assassin. Life coach." Seeing Faythiel's confusion, she clarifies: "the humans sometimes hire advisors to tell them not just how to run their businesses but how to manage their lives and homes better."

"I see..." Feythal shakes her head slowly. "Wife is not a job, though this 'life coach' thing sounds like a temporary, hired wife without, presumably, sex involved. Very strange, though I can see the value perhaps. Assassin seems to stick out among the three."

"Replace wife with tutor, then, though I am used to managing a large enough household that a wife is a full-time occupation. I have skill with shadow manipulation, hiding my presence, and with a blade."

"I see. Among our people, households are rarely larger than a dozen, servants included. And each household is responsible for itself among the Famigila, within the bounds of the Matriarch's rule, of course. I saw your bladework; impressively done for your age and position. Especially as the rest of your skillset suggests that direct confrontation is... something you normally avoid."

"It is. I do not advertise my abilities. Let them think I am air-headed and silly. They will lower their guard when I need them to."

"An effective if risky strategy," Feythal comments, selecting another orb. "What kind of wife would you be, given the... limitations you are under here."

"Efficient. Organized. Ruthless, cunning. Loyal, so long as I am not mistreated."

Feythal frowns a second, then tisks softly. "Ah, there seems to be a misunderstanding. I do not mean qualities but rank. Position. What role would you wish to play, as granted to you by the kind of marriage you would select?"

"I would be the dominant wife," she says quickly. "I have had enough of being subordinate. "

Feythal sighs softly, head shaking just a little. "You are merikos," she says, tone almost gentle. "Blood of mine or not, that imposes restrictions, limitations. You could be the dominant wife, though we are not Alessa and do not enshire such distinctions in law. But to be so, you would have to marry somone of lesser... rank." She leans forward a little. "Simply put, you could be the higher ranked wife to a drudge or the lesser to nobility."

"I will do as I am commanded," she sighs. "Were I matriarch I would feel my talents wasted on a druge, but if I am abused again there will be... consequences."
