Coquette Blacquin

"Spell out your grievance or stop wasting my time," she says dismissively.

NPCs

A look of surprised delight flashes in Odette's eyes before she hides it, though her smile grows more confident and sharp. "Really? You intend to wave this aside? Ignore the claim tradition states I've introduced already?" Even without a flare of warning from Cedric, Coquette senses the trap clearly enough. Zevran's blank stare indicates he doesn't see what's happening here, though he doesn't trust anything someone like Odette does in principal, but then he's not spent nearly as much time learning the legal and political rules of the Enclave.

Noir's eyes flick to the pile of unopened mail across the room, spying only now the corner of the envelope. Let me guess -- I've only four hours to reply, as it's a 'grievous challenge'. Bugger all. "I contest that anything so simple and easily remedied can be considered grievous harm to livelihood or person, and thus, I've the traditional forty-eight hours to respond. Therefore, if you're here after a mere six, you must have some other, newer charge against my person, and I would have it from you."

NPCs

"Nonsense," Odette says, the light in her eyes dimming a little as Coquette doesn't walk directly into the trap. She's not defeated on the matter, not yet, but she's not getting the uncontested victory she'd thought she'd managed. "A blow to the heart is fatal-- grievous indeed- but a simple cure spell takes but seconds to spare the life."

Coquette Blacquin

"So this is still merely the marketplace?" she sighs, looking annoyed as she shakes her head. "For this level of fuss I would have expected, at the very least, that one of my servants directly harmed your person. I did not expect one of your blood to be so... craven."

NPCs

"Pah! If he had attacked me, I'd have taken the debt from his corpse," Odette snarls, slashing a hand in emphasis. Whether she could back that claim up in direct combat or not is up in the air, but her observational skills are shown to be spotty at the least as she misses the blades that appear in Zevran's hands for a few seconds afterwards. "No, he insulted my honor. More, he challenged my authority and rights. In public, among lessers no less!"

Coquette Blacquin

"I see," says Coquette, condescendingly. "That must be a huge trail to you, having your honor so blatantly undermined by a half-blood servant. Why, you must be devastated! Such a blow to your poor, fragile ego!"

NPCs

Odette's cheeks pale and her eyes narrow. "The insult is all the greater because of the inferiority of the half-breed that dealt it! For one so lowly and foul to gainsay my word cannot be tolerated! I demand satisfaction as is my right by law!"

Coquette Blacquin

"Yes, yes," she sighs. "Ten gold?" That would be about the price for the most expensive prostitute in Alessa for the night, so she reasons it is likely to be sufficient.

NPCs

"Ten g--" Odette looks honestly offended by the offer, a more sincere emotion than just about any other Coquette had seen on her face so far. "Blood," she snarls after a second. "Shove your ten gold! My starting offer is blood, shame and suffering."

Coquette Blacquin

"So dramatic," she says, rolling her eyes just a touch. "Fifteen, final offer."

NPCs

"You ignorant, petulant child," Odette breathes out in a tone of almost wonder. "You're truly serious. You honestly think a handful of metal would salve this wound." She shakes her head slowly, pity joining the scorn and disgust on her face.

Coquette Blacquin

"You poor sap, you must have suffered so -- my servant went out of his way to ensure your property was well taken care of. Why, you should be paying me for the supplies he used!"

NPCs

"I know what 'sap' means in this context, outsider," Odette says coldly. "My servant was not meant to be taken care of then. And not by him, not ever." She shakes her head, thin braids whispering against each other with the motion. "Fine. If you aren't interested in protecting your wife, then who am I to dispute you?" Scoffing, she pivots to leave.

Coquette Blacquin

"Wait." Now her voice is like ice -- it seems she's taking this seriously. "My wife has nothing to do with this."
