NPCs

~She's what? Oh! An involuntarily invoked memory, discreet or thematic; a flashback. Is... Can I help?~
We are many. We are legion. We are... NPCs!

Coquette Blacquin

~I don't know, can you?~ asks Cindy, sounding a little desperate. ~She used to spend all her time in flashbacks, she only started coming out recently, when Sweetheart broke off. Now they both have them but in different ways.~

NPCs

Broke off? Oh, that's right, individual personalities can form from facets of an previous personality. I think? Dammit, I need.to reread that paper. No, I need to speak with zi'Smith. ~Possibly. What sort of things have you tried before? Has anything worked? Made it worse? ~
We are many. We are legion. We are... NPCs!

Coquette Blacquin

~Nothing really helps. We've taken her back to her room, to be in familiar surroundings.~

NPCs

~Her room? I thought you took your sessions in your room so weren't you already..?~
We are many. We are legion. We are... NPCs!

Coquette Blacquin

~In our mind, we have a house, where we each have a bedroom. ~

NPCs

~That's fascinating! And I'll have tons of questions later if you're willing but right now; Little B. So you said familiar things help ground her?~
We are many. We are legion. We are... NPCs!

Coquette Blacquin

~Sometimes. Mostly we put her to bed and ride it out.~ Cindy sounds a bit on edge, nervous. ~It affects the rest of us, when someone feels something that strongly.~

NPCs

~Have you ever tried singing? Or music in general?~

NPCs

~Music, especially slow, soft and predictable music, can be very calming. Especially if there's a piece that has some strong emotional connection; a favorite lullaby or a romantic serenada that's linked to some personal moment, for instance. Think of it this way; did you ever sing lullabies to your children?~
We are many. We are legion. We are... NPCs!

Coquette Blacquin

~Yes, of course. I had Varisia teach me Drow lullabies.~ Noire seems to be back now.

NPCs

~And did they not often help your daughter calm down? The majority of mortal races never entirely outgrow the bulk of our instinctive reactions to stress, pain or fear; a familiar, trusted voice singing a lullaby can often help an adult in great distress as much as it can a child.~
We are many. We are legion. We are... NPCs!

Coquette Blacquin

~She's not usually an adult, though she's older than my children. She doesn't respond much when we try to talk to her, so we figured she can't hear us.~

NPCs

~It's highly unlikely she actually goes deaf during a flashback, so even if she doesn't consciously react or even notice, she is hearing things around her. Music, scents, warmth and lighting can all have tremendous impacts on our subconscious, which in turn can push and pull our emotions in related directions. Putting her in her mental 'room' is already a step-- a few steps-- in this direction.~
