[Shiori]

"There's barely anyone left."

[NPCs]

"Because I've been doing this for years, Shiori," Koji snaps. "All those that remain are those absolutely required to keep the Clan tottering alone or one of the handful of people most difficult to place elsewhere." He pauses. "And now you; both a burden, a weakness, to the family and a... moderately valuable marker that can be played for more time and favors. Well. Time and repayment for a grave insult now."

[Shiori]

"You can't do that. I'm the clan's only hope."

[NPCs]

Koji flicks a hand dismissively. "Hardly," he replies. "Even if you do give birth to an outblood, they would not be of Higurashi blood. At best you could attempt to convince the Regent to petiton for the creation of a new Clan. And did you not hear me early? Our Patriarch could die any day now. He will certainly not last the two years until the birth of your children."

[Shiori]

"And what hope do you have that's any better?"

[NPCs]

Koji just looks at her with scorn. "...you're a fool. Well meaning, but a fool," he finally says, shaking his head. "The Higurashi are finished, Shiori. Nothing short of a literal miracle can change that now. You're too late to save the Clan; all that's left is saving at least some of its people. Which is what is happening now."

[Shiori]

"I, too, am doing what I can to save my family."

[NPCs]

"Good," Koji replies unexpectedly. "Then I'm sure you will have no objections to saving your sisters and mothers right now."

[Shiori]

She senses a trap, but still blunders ahead: "of course."

[NPCs]

"The Tigers are infuriated," Koji says simply. "They're threatening-- and are capable of-- calling in all our debts to them as well as ten times the bride price we were to be given. However."

[Shiori]

"However?" Shiori absorbs the information skeptically -- Koji must have seriously bungled things int he past for one insult to get things this bad. 

[NPCs]

"You offered grave offense to the Tigers for what you did. And no, do not bother protesting or proclaiming your innocence. I am well aware that you were the one to smuggle your sister out of the city," Koji snaps. "And this in the same month as your insults at the luncheon."

[Shiori]

Their existence is a grave offense. "And you have a plan to reconcile, I presume?"

[NPCs]

"You stole from them a bride, so it falls to you to take her place."

[Shiori]

Ice runs through her veins. "You petty little...." she whispers, trembling a bit.
