Zevran

"What... may this one ask what I am compensating for?" Ack, phrasing! "And perhaps how long..?" Not wanting to stand up when the Matriarch had deliberately placed him in the chair, Zevran gives his best seated bow.
Life without Passion is just another form of Slavery.

NPCs

"Your wife decided that Tenachka had harmed her too much and fought back. Successfully so. Which is to be applauded, but leaves me without my primary servant. You will serve as such until she is recovered in a month or perhaps two."
We are many. We are legion. We are... NPCs!

Zevran

There's a pause, but a very short one, as Zevran considers all this. His neck starts to turn, to look at Coquette, but he just barely manages to stop himself from looking away from the Matriarch. "Then I accept. Will I be able to spend time with my family during this, Matriarch?"
Life without Passion is just another form of Slavery.

NPCs

Feythal hums thoughtfully. "I have an errand I will need you to do for me, out of the Enclave, which might require some time to accomplish. But before and after that, yes."
We are many. We are legion. We are... NPCs!

Coquette Blacquin

Her shoulders slump a little, and she mouths a quick 'thank you' to him, hoping not to be visible from this angle. "Then, fare well." That said, she completes her turn and heads out of the chamber.

When Claudia arrives home, it's to find Coquette, carelessly tossed across the big bed they share many nights, sobbing into a pillow. In one hand is a crumpled, bloody, torn bit of colored paper.

Claudia Emerison

-bet if I switch from a 65/23/10/2 mix of bronze, silver, steel, carbon to a 62/24/10/3 mix it'll solve most of--

"Coquette?" the merikos gnome blurts out, rushing towards the bed only to stall as a churning ball of guilt in her stomach reminds her that her wife currently hates her.
Someday I'll prove that intellect and creativity can match magic. Then maybe I'll have also proven...

Coquette Blacquin

"I... I bought you a bookmark," she whimpers, thrusting the mangled paper at Claudia. "I'm s-s-s-orry, I had, I had the w-w-worst d-d-day, and I just-- and Zev is gone and-- and Faythal hates me and-- and I told her no and--"

Claudia Emerison

Claudia stares at the blood on the gift and her legs buckle. "Zevran's dead?" she whispers in a broken voice.
Someday I'll prove that intellect and creativity can match magic. Then maybe I'll have also proven...

Coquette Blacquin

"No! No no no, no, Faythal took him."

Claudia Emerison

"Oh. Oh," Claudia repeats, stumbling over to grab the edge of the bed. "She... took him? W-why?"
Someday I'll prove that intellect and creativity can match magic. Then maybe I'll have also proven...

Coquette Blacquin

"I... I d-damaged her pr-property. Te-Tenachka. I b-b-eat her." A pause. "Badly." Another pause. "She deserved it."

Claudia Emerison

"No surprise there," Claudia responds without thought. "Umm. I mean-- I mean that she d-deserved..." She gulps. "What... what happened?"
Someday I'll prove that intellect and creativity can match magic. Then maybe I'll have also proven...

Coquette Blacquin

"I-- it was-- I was trying to protect you," she whimpers, swallowing back fresh sobs. "So I l-l-l-et her... touch me."

Claudia Emerison

"Protect-- touch y--" Claudia's eyes widen with horror. "No... no... Coquette, you-- why would- why would you--"
Someday I'll prove that intellect and creativity can match magic. Then maybe I'll have also proven...

Coquette Blacquin

"It doesn't matter," she says dully, rolling over to stare up at the ceiling. "It's done, now. Months of... well it doesn't matter what."
