Shiori

"Were you speaking with me, the lady of the house? I had assumed you were summoning a servant with such a rude gesture."

NPCs

Dniss hissed softly, then, without turning around, spoke in a falsely sweet voice. "Please, do follow me, oh lady of the house."
We are many. We are legion. We are... NPCs!

Shiori

"Of course." She smiles too sweetly and moves to follow, leaving Jass behind to wonder what exactly was going on.

And wonder he does. Over the next six weeks or so, Shiori begins taking lessons with Dniss and tea with Emmy. It's clear which of those activities is better for her; she comes home from tea energized and excited, and back from Dniss weary and heavy-hearted. But it takes him a shamefully long time to figure out which activity has the greater impact on Shoiri's day-to-day.

To be fair, part of that is because she's making an effort to distance herself from him. He is no longer invited to the breakfast conversations, nor is he privy to whatever is going on with Dniss.  Still, her voice gets softer, her eyes begin to stick to the floor. She starts, for lack of a better term... fading away.

Even in the bedroom, she becomes less adventurous. She always let him lead the way, but now the expectation that she'll orgasm or even enjoy herself seems to fade away, as she focuses more and more on him and his cock than her own pleasure. Of course he tries to even things out. Of course she ends up enjoying every experience. But he begins to wonder what's going on inside her head.

Jassinth

And there it is again, Jass thought with frustration. Shiori had never been a bombastic presence, nor overtly assertive. Instead, she'd shown herself to have a quiet, almost gentle, force of will. Not a forest fire or a roaring beast, but a river winding its way to where it wants to go no matter the twists and turns required. But now... But lately... A fawn, separated from their mother too soon. Fragile, timid, walking with such ginger steps.

"Hey love," Jass whispered in welcome, reaching out to lead Shiori to the chair next to him. He'd readied a plate of cake loaf slices, more herbal than sweet, in an attempt to get her to eat more; she's been picking at her food for weeks now. He'd readied a bouquet of flowers for the table, a soothing scent meant to ease stress and lower tension. And he'd readied himself, as much as he can, to finally push her until she tells him something.

Shiori

She barely glances at the food, instead sliding off the bench to her knees. She turns, reaching for his buttons, almost rotely, as if from long habit.

Jassinth

"A fun method of saying hello," Jass agreed even as he gently caught her wrists. "But I'd rather hear your sweet voice and see your beautiful eyes."

Shiori

"Yes, sir," she says quietly, looking up at him with a placid expression.

Jassinth

"Are you drugged?" Jass demanded, tone sharper than he'd intended to use in this conversation.

Shiori

She jumps with a little 'eep'. "No, no drugs. I just... I just wanted to make you feel good..." her voice trails off to a whisper, tears burning in her eyes.

Jassinth

Jass let slip a sigh as he himself slips out of his seat to kneel in front of Shiori. "Love... just being around you makes me feel good... if you're okay, if you're safe and, if not happy, then at least content."

Shiori

"I am, things are going well..." she lies.

Jassinth

Jass stared at her silently, though his raised eyebrow and thin lips spoke eloquently enough on their own.

Shiori

"My friendship with Emmy is progressing, I have you... what more could I ask for?"

Shiori

She wrinkles her nose. "Okay, valid point."
