"Then I won't be caught."

[Shiori]

"How?" she laughs in desperation, wiping away tears.

[Jassinth]

"This place has no real clue about rangers, proper woods rangers. Charm a snake or the like. Make a very special tea blend or a salve." There's confidence in his words, in his voice, but she could also hear a hesitation of sorts. Nothing Shiori knows about Jass hints at him being an assassin of any shape or kind, save for his skill in hunting. And while some of those skills were one-for-one, it's absolutely not the same.

[Shiori]

"There aren't any snakes on the islands," she points out. "And you don't know the right dosage, do you?"

[Jassinth]

"There are snakes in the lake," Jass countered. Not that I'm overly familiar with water snakes but still. "And, ah, I figured I'd just go loaded for bear, so to speak, dose wise."

[Shiori]

Impulsively, she kisses his cheek. "I love you. But don't... don't put yourself in danger for me. If I lost you..."

[Jassinth]

"Shiori..." Jass sighed, lips curving upwards a little almost despite himself. "You know I feel the same about you, right?"

[Shiori]

"You won't lose me." She gives him a small, cheeky smile. 

[Jassinth]

"I've been losing you, inch by inch, for the last few weeks." There's no hint of a smile on his own face, just grave concern.

[Shiori]

"I'm still here," she pouts, looking away. 

[Jassinth]

"I'm not mad at you," Jass sighed. "I'm scared about what he's doing to you." Am mad at him.

[Shiori]

"I mean, it's just life, you know? Nothing stays pure and sweet and innocent forever. Eventually some asshole comes along to ruin things."

[Jassinth]

"Just because things can go bad doesn't mean we shouldn't try to make them better again," Jass argued. Violently, if need be.

"Not at the expense of your freedom."

[Jassinth]

"Risking my freedom in exchange for gaining your freedom is absolutely worth it."
