Stone's Throw

[Varric]

"Ah. Yes, that." He clears his throat. "Ne didn't explain it yet to you?"

[Carver Amell]

"I mean, ne tried, but ne got real sidetracked by talking about some ritual that ne has been working on. It's not... like before, right?"

[Varric]

"No," Varric confirms with a steady, solid tone. "To start, ne came to me beforehand to get a second opinion."

[Carver Amell]

Carver nods. "Good. Good. Okay. Yeah, I said I'd help watch the kids -- Sami would love to hang out more with Addy, and Dreas is of course always welcome."

[Varric]

Varric winces a little, a reaction he'd never have allowed to slip out in front of anyone but clan. "About Dreas... he's, ah, he's actually looking to spend the time at... with Cadmus. He's not got much time left, evidently."

[Carver Amell]

Carver stills. "I'll get a care package put together. He was... he wasn't... we weren't close, but he's a good man. He deserves..... well, good for Dreas, getting to know him while he can."

[Varric]

"He'd probably appreciate something for the Tribe in his name," Varric suggests somberly.

[Carver Amell]

Carver grins. "Which is why I'm giving him foodstuffs and personal goods. The man could use a bit of pampering. Just like--"

His expression fades into that wistful, hurt, angry expression he gets when he thinks of his former best friend. 

[Varric]

Not commenting on it, Varric just reaches over to give Carver's shoulder a firm squeeze. "That sounds like a great gift. Plus, if you give enough for two or three, he could share. Especially if it's catfolk delicacy or treat."

[Carver Amell]

"Smoked herring. And some bath salts that will ease joint pain." He nods, polishing off his plate. "Was that all?"

[Varric]

"Ah. Well. There is one-- the thing is-- Rather, what I mean to say--"

[Carver Amell]

Carver grins, taking advantage of Varric's fluster to make a bad pun: "cat-cat got your tongue?"

[Varric]

"Oh, is Mikael around?" Varric replies instantly, fluster absent thanks to the power of snark and sarcasm. 

[Carver Amell]

"No, but if need be I can fetch Everyone's Favorite Alchemist," he teases. 

[Varric]

"I'm already right here."
