Charon Tethras

"Yeah," he agrees. Isn't everyone?

Father Lelldorin

"Have you ever helped in a kitchen before?" Lelldorin asks Charon, setting aside the issue of a budding and earnest necromancer to simmer for a few moments.
I am lived long enough to know we are all in need of help. Even the gods.

Charon Tethras

He shakes his head. "Not cooking. But canning and preserving crops, yes."

Father Lelldorin

"The processing first as well or just the final canning steps? Cleaning, trimming, peeling and so forth."
I am lived long enough to know we are all in need of help. Even the gods.

Charon Tethras

"Some, not as much. More the final steps."

Father Lelldorin

"Would you be willing to learn?"
I am lived long enough to know we are all in need of help. Even the gods.

Charon Tethras

"Sure. So long as it pays."

Father Lelldorin

"Not much in coin I'm afraid," Lelldorin admits. "But it would only be three hours, five times a week, for room board and three silver a week. Or you can do two shifts a day for an additional ten silver." Given that it's two silver a night per person for meals and some straw by the fire at most inns, that's not terrible. Fifteen hours a week for seventeen silver or thirty for twenty-seven. Diminishing returns for ones time but coin is probably scarcer here than food or beds.
I am lived long enough to know we are all in need of help. Even the gods.

Charon Tethras

he blinks. "What, that's all? Six hours, five days a week? Yes, of course I'll do it."

Father Lelldorin

"I'll put you down on the list then," Lelldorin assures Charon, then glances at Dil.

Diligence

The kobold has, warily and with much squinting, removed his blindfold, so he notices the look right off. "Umm. I don't do well with cooking. Or, well, anything that means I have to work in bright areas? Oh! But I know the Mending and Cleaning cantrips. So I could do that?"
All I really want from life is a cozy den, my real family, good food
and a couple dozen skeleton servants.

Father Lelldorin

Cleaning? Ah, does he mean... "Mending and Prestidigitation?"
I am lived long enough to know we are all in need of help. Even the gods.

Diligence

"Uh. No? It's just Cleaning? It just cleans a small area. But I can cast it dozens and dozens of times,"  he adds quickly.
All I really want from life is a cozy den, my real family, good food
and a couple dozen skeleton servants.

Charon Tethras

"It's real useful, though."

Father Lelldorin

Strange. A gap in his education or a poorly made niche spell? Well, unless its cleaning is far superior to Prestidigitation or it has a lingering anti-befouling effect. Letting it go for now, Lelldorin simply nods. "An hour of Mending clothing, tools, furniture and toys per day for room and board. An hour of cleaning clothing, bedding and floors per day will gain you five silver. In time, if your spells prove well crafted, those in the neighborhood might bring additional things to Clean or Mend for a few coppers or more, depending on the item. If you're not comfortable with bartering yourself, then you can easily get the service of one of the other children here for a copper or two an hour. In additional, as an arcane user of any kind, there are mandatory lessons on top of the basic education lessons you'll have to attend." He glances at Charon now, clarifying, "the basic lessons are more than just writing and reading. They also include basic to intermediate maths, local law and history and a smattering of vocational basics as the student chooses."
