"..does the city have to brush its teeth?"

[Varric]

"....yes," Varric says after a moment. "But Nyra is a city, so instead of teeth like us, it has gatehouses. They help process things coming into the city and they're one of the first things others see, so they're both important in a practical sense but also need to look good." Almost idly, a part of his mind starts outlining a new book for his fellow Lights; The Care and Keeping of Your City: the Civics Book for Idiot Politicians.

[GamesMaster]

"How do you read the city a bedtime story?"

[Varric]

"Season end reports at the Lantern," Varric answers promptly.

[GamesMaster]

"...are Lights the city's mummies and daddies?"

[Varric]

"More... like its brain," Varric decides after a little thought. 

[GamesMaster]

"Then who is the city's mummy?"

[Varric]

Hmmm. Interesting question (could go a few ways). "Well, cities aren't born, they're created. Less baby and more... garden." he selects, recalling Aveline's hobby and thus figuring Silas would have some familiarity with it. "Some have one major gardener, others have many, but they all grow by the work of the plants involved more than the gardener."

[GamesMaster]

Silas blinks. "Gardens have bedtimes?" 

[Varric]

"...sort of, yes," Varric says, eyes half closed as he digs up some little used knowledge. "I don't recall the specifics, but while plants don't sleep, they do go into periods of low activity to rest. Generally at night, when the sun isn't out-- remember, most plants absorb sunlight to live-- so it's almost but not really like sleeping. Different plants rest at different times though, so the garden as a whole doesn't have a shared bedtime."

[GamesMaster]

"Like how Toma don't have to."

[Varric]

"Pretty much," Varric agrees, smiling, then glances at the table next the youth. "Did you want another glass of honey milk?"

[GamesMaster]

Silas nods. "Yespease."

[Varric]

Varric leans in, whispering, "can you say 'affirmative?'" 

[GamesMaster]

"Apermitve."
