Go Down

Diligence

"Dancing delights, Char! Don't do that!" Dil carefully brushes the dirt off his robe as he stands up from the tumble his shock had put him into. Finishing, he reaches up to readjust the somewhat broken pair of smith's goggles back over his eyes. Designed to protect a smith's eyes from sparks and the glow of the powerful fires needed to smith adamantine, the cloudy glass now serves to cut down how much light attacks the kobold's eyes. Not that he opens them all that much, but it helps, at least when he's allowed to wear them.

Slimy skinned fuckweasel teachers, Diligence thinks in absent habit at the familiar gesture. "Anyway, how're you hanging?" he asks for the, oh, millionth or so time. Dil's never met a clever bit of word play he wouldn't eat from hooves to horns.

Charon Tethras

"Got the rope round my neck but the block's still in place," replies Charon, also not remotely for the first time. He offers a fist for Dil to bump with his knuckles, adjusting slightly as Dil nearly misses. "Anyway, it's Revu, not Renu. That's what you're doing wrong. Renu is something like putrid, not undeath."

Diligence

"Are you... huh, yeah, you might be right," Dil muses after a little thought. "Hmm. Iefos'revu'dos," he intones, then nods. "Yeah, that does fit better. Well, as much as anything in Necril sounds like it fits, given it's, ya'know, a language derived from concepts utterly antithetical to our very beings."

Charon Tethras

"I mean, only in the technical sense.  Who hasn't felt dead inside every once in a while, ya know?" asks Charon, chuckling. "Might not be technically dead but..."

Charon Tethras

Charon snorts. "I'm not sure they're not all liches and vampires," he points out. "Have you seen one up close?"

Diligence

"One what? Rich, lich, vampire or a combination thereof?" Dil asks curiously, head tilting almost sideways as he ponders. "'cause I've see a rich person before, but not a lich. Maybe a vampire? I'm not sure, he coulda just been a really edgy necromancer."

Charon Tethras

"It even rhymes: rich, lich. That's a major clue."

Diligence

"I... I don't think it works that way, no."

Charon Tethras

"Sure it does. Like, how do you kill a vampire? You fry them on a vam-pyre. The word's a clue."

Diligence

"What? No. I mean, yeah, you can destroy a body pretty easily that way but vampires have to be beheaded with silver or staked through the heart with still green wood for the final death to take." Dil flits his tongue out, a tic that Charon has come to know fills much the same role as a blank stare or confused blinking.

Charon Tethras

"I mean, they can't come back from ash. Can they?"

Diligence

"Yeah? I mean, it's one of the easiest ways to injury them, fire is. Not quite as good as sunlight but really good. It's just that they do this thing were they turn into mist-- made of magic, not water-- and return to their coffin where they slowly, umm, harden back into a fleshy body? Or something like that." He pauses then, pondering. "Buuuut.... I guess... if you burned their coffin too... I'm not sure what happens then, actually. They always reform in their coffins but if they don't have one, I dunno if they just, uh, disperse? Or something? Or if they can form a new coffin. Or steal one?" Dil taps his chin. Would it be 'a rude and pointless question about matters that are above your concerns' to ask Master Dippet after class?

Charon Tethras

"Aw, fuck that. I want to be a vampire now. So what if you can't deal with sunlight? Who needs the sun anyway? The night is as dark as my soul, anyhow, I'm cool with it."

Diligence

Dil doesn't bat an eye at Charon's poetic rambles, entirely used to his occasionally dramatic ways. "We do," he replies instead. "Need the sun, I mean. At least I certainly do; there's no way my Good Parents would allocate the amount of wood I'd need to burn if I couldn't sun myself during the harvest season." Even more than the nagaji family that leaves nearby, Diligence had always loathed cold weather, and it had only gotten worse after he'd started down the path of the oracle.
