Stone's Throw

[Diligence]

Dil's mouth snaps shit and he ducks his head a little. "Sorry," he says quietly. "I thought we were just having fun there, I didn't mean to... Upset you?" He finishes a bit uncertainly, knowing he stepped wrong but not entirely sure how to label the effect it had.

[Charon Tethras]

"It... it's fine. I've just had a long day, is all." 

He knows this city is changing him. He would have considered that kind of joking around fun if they were back at their riverside spot, laughing between study sessions. But now.. everything feels harsher around the edges, more cold. He can't let his guard down, even around Dil. 

[Diligence]

"Maybe we should take tomorrow off or something," the kobold says thoughtfully. "i wonder if there's anywhere we can fish or even just swim some."

[Charon Tethras]

"Can't," he sighs. "They took my last coppers. We're broke."

[Diligence]

"What? Gods rot their eyes and putrefy their skin," Dil grumbles, then snorts. "I still have some coppers and then there's what I can get out this tangle. We can swing at least the morning for rest."

[Charon Tethras]

"Eh. I won't be able to rest with knowing how close we are to being homeless. I should get back out there and see if I can find some revenue stream."

[Diligence]

"Charon, we're far from being homeless," Dil protests again, gesturing around them. "We've got a place to stay, food and even some part-time work thanks to Father Lelldorin. It's not... enough to move up, not really, but we've got casting room."

[Charon Tethras]

"Yeah, but what if we mess up? What if he decides we've worn out our welcome? It all depends on one guy, a single point of failure. If this were a runic web we'd be flunked."

[Diligence]

"I man, 'priest' is a pretty solid, uh, rune to hang an array on..." Dil replies slowly, but nods. "But yeah, we should go for more, of course. Just... maybe not tomorrow morning?"

[Charon Tethras]

Charon sighs. "You're right. Let's take half a day off."

[Diligence]

Dil whoops-- softly-- then reaches out to grab Charon's forearm. "Awesome! I'll ask around tonight about finding a stream or... something. Cities are weird."

[Charon Tethras]

"We'll probably have to leave the walls to find anything green," he mutters, scowling. 

[Diligence]

"Maybe," Dil agrees with a huff. "Though I've heard people talking about... parks?"

[Charon Tethras]

"Isn't park what you do to a carriage?"

[Diligence]

"They made it sound like a field? Or, well, like a clearing, I guess, 'cause no crops?"
