"Brilliant, but he knows it, and it makes him arrogant. He has distanced himself from the Tribe, opting out of both tithes and aid, as so many do when they find success."

[Andreas Amell]

"Wait, if he's distanced himself, then why is he..?"

"Talent," Cadmus replies grumpily. 

[GamesMaster]

"He was apprenticed to your grandfather's predecessor -- they used to call her The Alchemist. Very talented. He's even working on a potion to extend one's life beyond their natural lifespan. It's not ready yet," Don adds hurriedly. "I um. I asked."

[Andreas Amell]

Cadmus sighs a little, but doesn't comment. He just pats Don's hand quietly.

"Ah. I mean..." Dreas coughs a little. "That and turning base metals to gold or mithril are, well, aren't they just about every ambitious alchemist's goals?"

[GamesMaster]

"Yes, but Niko might actually pull it off. He's invented three new bases for dyes, and a potion that more safely stops a pregnancy  than the herbs we used to use."

[Andreas Amell]

"I... am not well versed enough in alchemy to know how impressive that is or isn't," Andreas admits reluctantly, sounding more remorseful and even guilty than the issue seems to warrant on the face of things.

[GamesMaster]

"They tell me it's very impressive. Which is all the worse that we have to deal with Niko to get his genius."

[Andreas Amell]

"That sounds annoying," Andreas agrees, bobbing his head. "But... I mean, you were friends in the past, right? So..."

[GamesMaster]

Don makes a face. "It's... complicated. You'll see."

[Andreas Amell]

"Nice," Cadmus offers.

"...you mean A-- D-- your son was too nice to not be friends with him?" That wasn't awkward at all! Great job!

[GamesMaster]

Don flinches. "No, it's not that. It's more... he was... he looked up to me."

[Andreas Amell]

"But now that you're a Light, you're too high to see?" Andreas guesses, just glad neither of them commented on his naming uncertainty.

[GamesMaster]

"Something like that."

[Andreas Amell]

"It's not the same, but I've had friends... fade or twist on me, once they find out who my grandpa is," Andreas admit with some bitterness.

[GamesMaster]

Don waves a paw. "I was always the Keeper's son. It isn't that different."
