[NPCs]

"Hmm. I see." Cadmus nods a little, then asks, "perhaps... alternate?"

[Charon Tethras]

"Maybe," he concedes. 

[NPCs]

"So kind you are," he teases.

[Charon Tethras]

"Nobody ever accused me of being a soft touch before," he laughs. 

[NPCs]

"Oh? Rumors says you are kind, generous, if often unsee," Cadmus replies, using the catfolk slang for people who aren't spiteful or cruel to beggars and such, but simply don't notice them.

[Charon Tethras]

Whoops. "Well, not to my face, anyway. Mayhap behind my back, yah?" Charon tries out a little of the slang he's picked up, just a touch, as if testing whether he's allowed. 

[NPCs]

"Mayhap," Cadmus agrees. "Praise can be hard to hear, yah."

[Charon Tethras]

Charon is quiet a minute before changing the subject. "Do you ever think about... the other one? The one who died? What they'd have been like?"

[NPCs]

"Yes," Cadmus admits softly. "Of their lives lost, their futures taken. And of the family broken by grief."

[Charon Tethras]

"Is that why...?" he wonders aloud. 

[NPCs]

"That... Finding your sister's body was the blow that made the crack. The endless, fruitless search for your brother widened it." Cadmus has to pause to cough, to sip, to breath, but he pushes on. "But it was their grief that shattered them. Don would not allow to feel. Beth could do nothing but. Neither listened."

[Charon Tethras]

"My brother? So there were three." He sounds almost satisfied for a moment. "Mother never talks about him. I wasn't even sure he existed."

[NPCs]

"Oh." Cadmus hums for a moment, then shrugs one shoulder a little. "Oops."

[Charon Tethras]

"I'm not sure it was a secret, only... only, what happened to him?" There's a real hunger in his eyes. 

[NPCs]

"Simply gone," Cadmus answers, ears flattening. "Hunters, divinations, scrying; all failed. But failed to confirm death as well."
