Stone's Throw

[Varric Thedas]

"Ah." Varric was quiet a moment. "Well, they didn't have a trusty dwarf, did they?"

[Helene Dakesh]

Helene snorts, amused. "I have no idea. Maybe they had a whole harem of dwarves."

[Varric Thedas]

"Sounds exhausting."

[Helene Dakesh]

"You're exhausting," ne says playfully. 

[Varric Thedas]

"So imagine having four or more of me to deal with," Varric pointed out.

Miles and miles away, several Lights felt a shiver run down their spines.

[Helene Dakesh]

"But seriously, if you were meant to shoulder the burden they'd have asked you directly. No, this is my task, to succeed or fail."

[Varric]

"Helene..." Varric reached up to cup the side of nir head. "We're married. Asking you for help is asking us for help. Unless it's actually forbidden?"

[Helene Dakesh]

"I'm allowed to tap anyone I want or need for my team. But it's my team. And it's on my head if it fails."

[Varric]

"Don't take over, check," Varric promised.

[Helene Dakesh]

"I'm going to want you on the logistical team during the event. Which means... did you pack any of your fancy Light gear?"

[Varric]

"Of course I did?"

[Helene Dakesh]

"Good, good. I'll get a broad belt to go with your stole, with an elaborate wooden buckle. One for myself as well. That will show which group we're representing but still be formal enough for the feast."

[Varric Thedas]

"Wood?" Varric's nose wrinkled a little, but he shrugged. Varric isn't the dwarfiest of dwarves, but wooden clothing or ornaments are a bit weird to him. "Should I wear nature colours, Alydra's colours or Nyra's?"

[Helene Dakesh]

"Nyra, I'd think. I'll be wearing a little of both. It'd be strange for me not to wear my holy symbol, for example." A pause. "Oh, wear a holy symbol. Outsiders of this high rank are much more comfortable when they can see at a glance who you worship. They can tell what's going on from your aura anyway, and they don't understand how we function without their aura sight, so it makes them think we do things the way they do."

[Varric]

Varric rubbed at his ear. "Alydrea too then. Will that be a problem, the guide and nir second both worshipping the invited deity and none the host?"
