New Avalon

The innovations wing was where the museum showcased all the advancements that had led New Avalon to being the city it was today. Many took pride that this was the only city that seemed to have all the advancements, but none were more amazing than Pulse. Pulse energy wasn't found anywhere else in the country. It was a source of energy that allowed anyone in the city to have lights and ran many of the newer factories in the city.

They have a few examples of some of the machinery that worked on Pulse and some rudimentary explanations as to how it worked in the displays as Erika and Rob headed for the back of the innovation ring...though one of them seemed to catch Erkia's eye. It was an display about how they were able to turn giant gears with the smaller Pulse engine attached, but it seemed off to her. Like something wasn't where it should be.

Erika pauses, a bit of fear spiking in her. Was this another trap? Was she about to lose control again?

After a long moment and some deep breaths, when she finds herself still in control of her faculties, she inches closer to the display. Knowing nothing about Pulse, she stops to read the description of the exhibit, though after a moment she gives up on that. Blasted things are always so vague, she muses, peering instead at the actual display itself. It seemed logical enough...

Rob notices Erika pause to inspect an exhibit; checking his watch, they have a few minutes to spare, but only just.

"We don't want to keep Dr Harrisberg waiting," he reminds patiently. "We can come back to this after if you like."

She holds up a finger. "Hang on, there's something here...." Something was wrong and it grated at her, teasing her subconscious, demanding her attention.

"I don't think the staff want visitors touching the exhibits," Rob cautions. "Come on," he continues, gently pulling Erika's arm, just enough to encourage. "The sooner we conclude our business, the sooner we can come back and look around at leisure."

Erika doesn't budge. "Yes, but it's wrong. Can't you feel it?"

Sighing inwardly, Rob takes a good look at the exhibit. While he's no engineer, he does have a basic grounding in mechanics; to him, the machine looks pretty plausible. "Looks OK to me," he remarks.

There definitely WAS something wrong. She could tell that at least two of the gears were too close. They'd jam the entire thing! Even if this WAS a display, why would anyone design something like this! Couldn't they just look at it and tell? It even seemed rather easy to fix...maybe even improved if she could find some other parts. Why on earth couldn't Rob see it?

To Rob, however. It looked like a display for some kinda engine. Nothing really stuck out at him as wrong.

"There," she says, jabbing a finger at the machine. "Those gears are way too close. They'll jam within five revolutions." She leans forward, reaching to tug at the gears, trying to pull them slightly apart. "And this bit's horribly inefficient. Honestly, they'll give schoolchildren the wrong impression altogether."

"And what the devil do you think you are doing?! That's one of the exibits, not a toy to be taken apart." Dr. Harrisberg is seemed to be rather light on his feet when he wanted to be.

[Hammer Sister]

Rob spins in surprise to face the sudden new arrival. "My apologies, sir; curiosity is quite persuasive sometimes," he apologises, gently but firmly pulling Erika's hands away from the exhibit.

Erika frowns, giving Dr Harrisburg a withering look. "It's wrong. This won't run five minutes if you turned it on."

"What the bloody..." Dr Harrisburg moved to the engine, seeming to wonder what she could be talking about. "What are you talking about? This model was delivered here in pristine condition! Are you telling me that it's inaccurate?"

She nods, gesturing to the gears. "These here, they're too close together. And this, it's wildly inefficient. You could remove this entire piece if you laid it out better. Shoddy workmanship. And here, the Pulse channel is too narrow, it'll overflow under load."

Dr. Harrisburg gave a bit of a frown. "What the devil...young lady, I know you are of the employ of Mr. Roidmet. And as far as I remember, none of the Crusaders are in his employ...so, how is it that I should believe that you are correct?"
