Sam moves as quickly as he can manage against the general flow of people,  aiming for the police station. Not to visit the fine constables of this place, they had made it quite clear he was not welcome around there after the last time she went snooping about where they didn't want her, but to visit Gabby No Nose. She usually hung out near the station and was a good source of information about what's going on. She should be able to catch Sam up on the gossip going round the precinct lately.

After that.... It'll be off to the library. The welcomed tended to make the news eventually, if he was lucky he could get some information about the names Abbot gave him in the back issues. He might even be lucky enough to get the names of some friends of the missing he could talk to.

CalamityJade

Gabby was a little stingy at first, but a bit of food was more than enough to get the skinny...which unfortunatly wasn't much. She knows that the police were definitely on some sort of high alert and she'd seen a couple of the 'Welcoming Committee', another name for the high ranking officers that usually dealt with anything to do with the Welcomed,  going in and out of the police station. They haven't started cracking down on anyone, but they're obviously on edge about something. There HAD been some small amount of noise about another PI talking to the police chief a few days ago, but they hadn't seen him again since then.

The names were...interesting to say the least. They were all Welcomed and it was easy enough to find them. Harris Montgomery was a high-up banker, Yavon Kilruss was a socialite that seemed to have make a living being such. Obsidian Roidmet was a...security firm owner? Seemed like he made his money giving protection to people for a price. He was also noted in a couple of opinion pieces as a bit of a surly hothead unlike...his brother Gregory Roidmet. If the name didn't stick before, it would now. Roidmet Shipping was one of the bigger businesses in the city that dealt with anything outside of New Avalon. The only thing that all of them had in common was...that none of them had been put out as actually missing. There WAS a statement about Obsidian Roidmet having been absent at a party recently, but that wasn't anything new and was only noted because his brother had attended.

accalia

Huh. Now that's interesting. Roidmet eh? Now there's a name.

"But why are they involved? that's not a quiet name... or is it?"

This required more research. but, you know, carefully.

CalamityJade

It seemed that Obsidian was...vocal, but not exactly a public figure. He was known for being somewhat hard-assed to hire, since he was very particular about what his people would and would not do and how much it would cost. To be more accurate, he was known for being a blunt asshole. His business was top notch and most places he was hired to guard stayed more or less how the clients left them.

He was ALSO known, more recently, as someone having some sort of long-running argument with Mordriana the Fatespinner. Some imagined it had to be something rather serious for them to always be seen having some sort of argument. Not a lot of information about what they were fighting about, either. Just that they were not on friendly terms. There also hasn't been any sort of 'missing persons' report about him either.

accalia

Well, the mystery deepens.... Sam decides to dig into this deeper.... when was the last time Obsidian made the papers again?

CalamityJade

As a slight mention of being at one of his brother's parties. There's a lot of speculations on what he does with his off time as well as questions as to what he may or may not be up to. A slight mention that he's been slightly more active with the city council. Something about bad construction and some places having less power than they should. It even mentions that he was getting a little bit of headway before he disappeared. There's also mention that his absences aren't too unusual, given that...he's apparently spent a few trips outside of the city? Seeing how the Welcomed are basically instant celebrities, many of them actually shy away from leaving for any reason.

accalia

Curioser and curiouser..... Hmm.... Sam backs off and comes at this from another direction. Who has been known to be around Obsidian in his off hours, such as they might be.

CalamityJade

It appears...not many. He's been seen in the company of his brother, his nephew at some occation, but he seemed fairly well-versed in eluding reporters, to the annoyance of more than one of them. The only thing that's certain is that he frequented several different parts of the city.

accalia

Okay... let's track down the brother and nephew. What have they been up to then?

CalamityJade

Gregory Roidmet was much more 'typical' case. He ran the largest shipping company for within the city as well as anything being sent in or out. He made several appearances at parties, social events, and even some charity work. He'd recently been in the paper for working on some deputes with dock workers about treatment.

His son, Lance, was more of a socialite. He was seen at parties that he was supposed to be and several that he wasn't. He also has a bit of a reputation for being a ladies man and everyone (the press) were waiting to see what he would be Welcomed to be. A little digging would get that Lance DID seem to have his own office separate of his father's building. Maybe he's trying to strike out on his own?

accalia

Interesting and interesting.... now what about this Mordriana person? what's been happening with them?

CalamityJade

Mordriana had been in the news about a week ago. The incident at the Grail Boulevard Bazaar had been the talk of the town. Some mysterious airship had been seen fleeing the scene and it looked like it had been an attempt on the fatespinner's life! In fact there was even a picture of the attack and a few afterwards of the people that had been seen assaulting the disguised men that had attempted to kidnap her. The first was of one of the assailants, who were in some rather weird clothing. It looked like the kinds you read about in adventure pulps. The second was of a man talking to the police and someone in some concealing and somewhat dirty clothing. The man was credited as Rob, a private detective, and ...no given name for the woman. There was a small blurb that they didn't know WHO they were and they offered a small reward for anyone having information on the woman.

accalia

Huh. well there's a name that doesn't want to be found.... Sam tries finding anything he can about this Rob.... or anything he can about recent assassination attempts.

CalamityJade

Interestingly enough there isn't a whole lot about Rob. Some small adverts about his private detective practice, the article about the Bazaar incident. Seemed like he was one of the Waiting, simply from the fact that he was a private detective and not part of the NAPD. Also a bit of a curious profession, in a city that seems to pick and choose who to elevate for what it needs. Of course ,that all depends on how much you believe in that. Many of the Waiting had moved on to whatever jobs they felt suited them, leading to more than a few saying that it was just a superstition, but how else could you explain that some people just immediately became successful.

As far as assassination attempts, there wasn't much that fit the bill. There was the Bazaar and an explosion on Sterling Avenue the previous day with some injuries. It was strange, as usually. The Power Men (Another name for the people Welcomed to the city to work with and maintain the Pulse power network for the city) usually would be quick to make a statement about what exactly had happened and assure the people that it was fine, but they hadn't responded yet. There were also some preliminary names released that were caught in the blast, with the name Rob McCarthey buried in the list of a few other people that were injured or worse.

accalia

huh..... this Rob was involved in.... and then he got himself killed? That didn't make sense... Hmm.... were does -did- Rob bunk up for the night? maybe there's something there?
