He sighs, swirling his drink. "You think he'd have been proud of me?"

"Well...I'm harder to please and I'm proud of you. So yeah, probably."

Lance smiles, startled and pleased by his uncle's admission. As he raises his glass to his lips, he closes his eyes in a quick prayer.

I hope I can be as good a husband and father as you were, someday, Dad.

With that, he turns back toward the house, ready to face the party -- and the future.
