It doesn't take long to get the hook around the rope and pull it onto the deck, and Vic turns out to be surprisingly quick on the uptake on how to size and band the lobsters. Tony can't take the route at efull speed, but he's up to about half speed by the time they finish and are nosing towards the harbor.

"Good job out there. We dropping these off directly or do we heed to drive them somewhere?" he asks, referring to the smuggled cargo.

yamikuronue

"Bringing them to the joint you met The Boss in." replies the youth.

accalia

"By road it is then. grab the stern line and be ready to secure us." Tony had spent a couple of minutes before they set out explaining what the procedure would be when they got back to dock. It's not complicated, but if Vic messes up odds are pretty good he'll fall in the water, and that would not be good.

yamikuronue

Vic, Tony will be pleased to learn, is a quick study, and careful to pay attention to small details. He can be clumsy, but he manages alright.

accalia

With the boat tied up and the lobsters offloaded that leaves Tony and Vic alone with the rum.

"well, these are going to suck getting up onto the dock." Tony grumbles and he hefts the first one...

yamikuronue

Vic jumps up onto the dock, moving to take the barrel from Tony to make things easier.

accalia

With Vic's help it's mere minutes before the barrels are on the quay, just waiting for Tony to bring the car around.

"Well then, best get moving, Shift changes in about.... oh." Tony had just checked his watch "Five minutes ago. Well nothing for it, we'll just have to act natural and hope i remember the beat shift's routes too... We don't often have a beat shift so..."

yamikuronue

"Hope you remember?" says Vic, scornfully, his eyebrows raising.

accalia

"Beat shift's a four hour shift we have about once every 3 months because the shifts don't align right and make a gap occasionally." Tony counters "I memorized the routes for the regular route because i expected us to be back an hour ago, with plenty of time. Now i'm going on months old memory. But if you have a better idea?"

yamikuronue

"If you want to be useful to the Family, you need to get serious," says Vic, instead. "You can't half-ass it forever."

accalia

"It's worked for me so far." And with that worrying comment Tony puts the car in gear and starts driving back to the speakeasy.

yamikuronue

Vic sighs, settling into his seat. It's almost over. Maybe I'll survive. And then I'll never have to talk to this guy again..

accalia

Yeah, Tony totally drives to the speakeasy without getting stopped, they see a couple of cop cars but they just wave friendly like at Tony before continuing on. Tony parks at the speak easy and looks at Vic. "Well... that was fun."

yamikuronue

"Yeah. Let's never do that again."

The rum is delivered, and the boss's representative is... pleased. He gives Tony some information about how he can contact The Family if he needs to, and informed he'll be given responsibilities as they come up. It seems he's passed the test... for better or for worse.

A few weeks pass, then a month. The extra pay he's been getting on the side helps Tony's financial situation, and slowly but surely, he's given more trust, more reputation. He can't become a Made Man, not without being Italian, but he can become a more trusted associate, and he's well on his way.

He doesn't see Vic again. This family is newer, still getting established, but there's plenty of errand boys, and it's not unusual to not see a particular one. So when Vic shows up at his work just as he's getting off shift, it's somewhat of a relief to see the kid again.

accalia

"Hey Vic, Thought i wasn't gonna see you again." Tony says, rubbing at his captains bars.... Damn it IA! he didn't want this job! Of course he was IA's second choice. They had Offered it to Bear, but he turned it down saying 'I don't know what i was thinking bucking for captain, too much damn paperwork. I'll stick with sarge.' Which of course meant Tony got stuck with the job AND had to find someone to take his place as louie.... And to top it off that Prick Captain White was making his nights hell....
