The Gig [Finished]

[accalia]

"well, then it served my purpose and did no harm to yours." tony changes tack easily. the tree and the car were at the front of the house and Vic was at the back, so yeah they wouldn't have drawn attention.

[yamikuronue]

"You have a hidden agenda?" asks Vic, trying to sound amused.

[accalia]

"Just survival. You getting caught would have been bad for mine."

[yamikuronue]

So someone must have been around, then. Or the guy was a hallucinating. But if he was, it was making him more cautious, so that's fine.

"..how'd you get so idealistic and crooked at the same time?" ventures Vic, after a moment of silence.

[accalia]

"By deciding not to be like my father. I'd prefer to have stayed on the straight to be honest, but that wasn't gonna happen. couldn't make the changes that i want to."

Tony's genuinely not happy about that, but he has a goal, and he's willing to go a little off the straight and narrow if needed to.

[yamikuronue]

"What changes? If you want the world to be more fair, you'd think the cops would be the place to do it."

[accalia]

"no, the heads are just as corrupt as my father was. Possibly more so. No, if i'm to change this city to make things better for those that men like my father and the comissioner stand on i've gotta topple those who are doing the standing, and for that i got to fight dirty."

[yamikuronue]

"So you're going to go against The Boss someday?" asks Vic, quietly.

[accalia]

"Possible, but i doubt it. he seems like he's got enough sense to know if you lift the bottom there's more profit for him. and even if he hasn't, he's not the biggest  problem"

[yamikuronue]

"It's not like he doesn't kill people," Vic protests.

[accalia]

"True, and i'm not happy about that, but when he does kill people he does it all at once, he doesn't kill them by the thousands, one slice at a time, over years. a death so slow they never even realize they are being killed until they are dead." Tony pulls over to the side of the road next to a park. This conversation seems to be going on for a while and they've not got enough time to have it in if he keeps driving.

[yamikuronue]

Vic looks out the window. "It doesn't exactly help. Maybe one guy has ten more depending on him."

[accalia]

"No, it doesn't." Tony agrees "But.... one problem at a time."

[yamikuronue]

"So what, you're going to eliminate poverty?"

[accalia]

"No, that's not actually possible, but i can make it possible for people to climb out of it without being slapped down once more."
