He finds the rough spot where he'd been standing and sits, cross-legged, his hands on his knees. He closes his eyes, envisioning the dark, and the terror, and how it felt. The precise sound of the growling. The feel of poker chips in his hand. And, finally, his son's face.

Nothing happens. He can feel a barrier in front of him, smooth as obsidian, and there is a crack there where presumably this shadow creature exited, but Miles can't even get a grip on it to force it open, in fact the more he tries the smaller the crack becomes until it has disappeared entirely, healed as if it had never been there at all.

As Miles strains at the wall he notices something strange, there's a word tied to his perception of the wall, a word filled with power and import. a word of great significance that despite never hearing or seeing before Miles is instantly and intimately familiar with. It's a name, an old name... but for what sort of creature Miles doesn't know, though he's certain he'd know the creature the name belongs to if he ever saw it again. ...again?!

Miles nods, getting up and tipping his hat to Elaine. "I've got the trail now," he says, confidently. "I'll have him back before you know it."

[accalia]

Elaine responds to Miles jocularity with a rude gesture. She's plainly not going to be happy about his presence without her son there. "Does honored customer require anything else, or will he honor my request and leave?" she asks, being required to serve customers in her shop as well as not wanting to see Miles any further.

[yamikuronue]

"Don't leave. I won't appreciate having to hunt you down to return the boy." With that, he tips his hat and starts out the door.

[accalia]

"I am but a humble merchant, slave to my shop. I go where it wills." is the response from Elaine. "Is there anything else Honored Customer requires?"

He doesn't bother to reply as he cruises out the door.

Predictably the door disappears behind Miles as soon as it closes. Still Miles has a feeling that he'll at least be able to find it again when it reappears on this plane. So... That's something at least. Now.... How to find out about this name?
