My hunch is it has to do with Echo's mind.

to give a little hint: Ms. Schreien  is not part of Echo in any way, but Echo is also completely incapable of perceiving Ms. Schreien in any way. In fact he's quite likely to have completely forgotten even the conversation about Ms. Schreien  by next week.
