The Story So Far...
This world is a crossover between Buffy: The Vampire Slayer and The Dresden Files. We are currently shortly after the end of Season 6 of the former; the timeline of the latter diverged after Small Favors. It is currently the year 2005. (I think).

On one fateful night, in spring, two events happened simultaneously: Tara Maclay died, and Harry Dresden killed every Red Court vampire in the world. The combined magic uses of these two events together sapped the reserves of the world, and a crucial spell failed: one holding an Elder God imprisoned. The world nearly ended. Nearly.

The Elder God was defeated, the world saved. It turns out, this being was feeding on the ambient magic of the world, holding it back from what should be present. With its death, magic flooded back into the world, and many people who had never held any magic before found themselves developing minor talents. 

Oh yeah, and dragons came back into the world.

Magic Classifications


Magic comes in a number of flavors, more so than there used to be:

Witches harness magic through spells and Wiccan rites.

Wizards are inherently magical beings, who live for hundreds of years and are born to Wizard parents.

Talents have a single trick, or a small collection of related inborn magical abilities. These didn't used to exist really.
