Under Darkness [AU]

[Marian Hawke]

"You are mistaken," says Marian simply. "There is no such structure in my garden."

[Tethras Clan]

"...right," Varric mutters. Guessing that related to the over-pruning... "Tethras, you know about the greenhouse, right?"

[Marian Hawke]

Tethras nods, giving him an odd look. "We literally just came from there."

[Tethras Clan]

"You also mentioned that Marian's been there and..." Varric gestures at the sitted aspect.

[Marian Hawke]

Tethras frowns. "No, I clearly said Marian refused to look at it."

[Tethras Clan]

Varric pauses a moment, then nods. "Won't come look at it," he echoes, shaking his head. Sloppy old man, focus. "Sorry. But that does imply she should at least be aware it exists."

[Marian Hawke]

"I had hoped she was done with this game," scowls Tethras. "It is clearly there. It can be seen quite obviously."

"I have no idea what you're talking about," protests Marian with a frown.

[Tethras Clan]

"Ladies," Wynne says sharply. "Do keep in mind that this is a mindscape. As such, what we perceive is in deeply shaped by our preconceptions, mindsets and ability to comprehend some very dense and often metaphorical information. It's very likely that the aspect of Hawke known as Marian is being prevented from seeing the greenhouse. Or at least from realizing she is doing so."

"What greenhouse?!" says Marian, scowling. "There's never been a greenhouse here. Why would I need one?"

[Tethras Clan]

"Well... in this particular mindscape, memories are represented by flowers. Greenhouses are generally used to protect flowers that are ill suited for an environment. Or that are particularly valuable," Wynne theories.

[Marian Hawke]

"The interior of that greenhouse is frozen solid. Are there flowers that only thrive in winter?" asks Tethras. 

[Tethras Clan]

"I can think of a few of them, yes," Wynne says with a nod. "Some that simply prefer it, others that require it. And even a few that create cold. However, I cannot think of any that would create ice of such durability."

[Marian Hawke]

"And what would cold have to do with any of my flowers? They're not really flowers, you know," says Marian. 

[Tethras Clan]

"Sure, but you're planting them in soil anyway," Varric replies with a shrug.  Is she claiming to... own the memories? So not just in charge of the aspects but also representative of Hawke herself? Making her the Id? "And you do have a thing for ice magic so it's not surprising you'd have a winter flower section. Probably your magic lessons and such. Maybe your spells."

Marian smiles faintly. "I have some poinsettias somewhere with memories of those inside. I'm glad I grew out of that little quirk."
