Under Darkness [AU]

[Tethras Clan]

"I... don't have a weapon," Andy says with a wince. After a moment, he admits, "I sold it."

[Carver Amell]

"There's plenty of branches," he points out. "What do you fight with?"

[Tethras Clan]

"We're trained for clubs- batons- but it never really clicked for me," Andy replies. "And... you have to be approved for non-standard training."

[Carver Amell]

"Great. Starting today, you train for longswords." Carver climbs to his feet. "Help me find branches."

[Tethras Clan]

"Right," Andy says, scrambling after him. "Ah... do you know any other weapons? I mean, longswords are fine, just... I think I might prefer a non-bladed weapon. Maybe. I guess I don't really know.

[Carver Amell]

"If you don't know, swords are as good as any," he snaps. 

[Tethras Clan]

Andy gives Carver a double take. "Uhh... did I step on a trap or something?" he asks carefully.

[Carver Amell]

"Sorry," he says after a moment. "I get a lot of crap for liking swords."

[Tethras Clan]

"Oh. Huh. I mean, I don't mind other people using... it's just that blood, uh, I'm..." Andy winces, looks away. Takes a deep breath. "I can smell blood.... a little too well," he says softly.

[Carver Amell]

"Oh." He makes a face. "Well, the practice will do you good, and I don't know how to teach you staffs or anything like that anyway." 

[Tethras Clan]

"Right. I mean, if nothing else, I could just use a blunted blade, right? I mean, if you hit someone with a blunted longsword, it'd still get their attention right quick I'd imagine," Andy says quickly.

[Carver Amell]

"Yeah, of course. Or, what those paladins use, the merciful weapons." 

[Tethras Clan]

Andy winces, thinking of the cost of that. "Someday maybe, yeah," he agrees anyway. "Ah, will this do?" he asks, hefting a stick a good foot too long for his relatively short reach. Might work fine for Carver, but Andy is honestly fairly small.

[Carver Amell]

"No, too long. Look for one, a foot, maybe a foot and a half shorter. Here, give me that one." He holds out his hand.

[Tethras Clan]

Andy passes it over with a nod. "Foot shorter, got it," he says before going off to find one. After succeeding, he shows it off to Carver. "So what's the first step? Footwork like clubs?"
