Go Down

Carver Amell

He tenses. "I won't let anything happen to her."

Varric

"So yes," Varric says bluntly. "What can you tell me?"

Carver Amell

Beth's never going to speak to me again. He shifts, looking down at her sleeping face, and makes up his mind that he doesn't care.

"We're, she's done something, and a..." He looks back, wincing a little. "She's going to kill me," he mutters. "You have to keep this quiet. I suggested telling you last night but she was too tired to make a decision but I thought maybe you could help keep it under wraps so nobody goes to prison."

Varric

Goes to- what the ever disgusting fuck happened last night? "Better plan. Wake her up, I'll start breakfast and we're all going to talk," he says curtly, pushing off the doorframe to leave.

Carver Amell

"Wait," he calls. "She's, please don't be mad at her? I-- she really wanted this to go well."

Varric

Carver Amell

He flinches. Great. I'm going to whatever special place there is in hell for lapsed Vangalites. Worse, I'm going to have to see Beth's face before I go. Lord Vangal, take me to the special hell before I have to see Beth's broken heart and I'll swear vows on the spot.

Fifteen minutes later, he and Beth are up and dressed. "So uh... please don't be mad at me," he whispers as they head out for breakfast -- the first he's said anything about Varric's being up.

Bethany

"..." Beth gives him a long look. "Why am I not being mad at you?" she whispers back, grabbing his arm before he can go into the kitchen.

Carver Amell

"Uh... Varric caught us in bed together and uh... maybe knows something's up. I tried, I did!" he argues.

Bethany

Bethany squeaks, her face turning bright crimson. "But we- oh. Right, you mean." Still flushing, she hurries into the kitchen, so focused on getting out of that misunderstanding she forgets to press him on what he just said.

Varric

"Have a seat, breakfast is just about ready," Varric says in a clipped tone. He's heard the pair, of course, and despite the amusement at that last bit, is getting more and more worried.

Carver Amell

Carver cringes. Any time, Lord Vangal. Literally.

He trudges in to sit, opening his mouth almost as soon as his butt's in the chair. "I made Beth do it. It was my fault. I'm sorry."

Varric

His back to the pair, Varric considers the small vial in his hand. After a moment, he pours it into his tea, careful to keep it hidden from the two teens. No. Not yet. Not unless they start lying. "You know better'n that Carver. Start at the beginning, stick to facts. Explanations, motivations- that all comes last."

Bethany

"Umm, well... what exactly are you wondering about?" Bethany tries, then slumps at the look her dad gives her when he turns around to bring their plates over. "Sorry."

Carver Amell

"Last night. We were... somewhere with the gang, it's not important where-- no, it really isn't," he insists. "We were with friends. And um, some new friends, who were hiding, um, for reasons. That's also not important. So um, the thing is, um... One of them killed a guard. And we, and I was hoping, we got rid of the body and all and I think one of our new friends is going to be able to keep that quiet, but... but it's better to be sure?" he concludes, weakly.
