"Well, no," Zevran says with a slight smile. "That is a deeply personal thing to ask, much the same as asking about... well, your, ah, personal affairs with your husband?"

Helene blinks. "If this is a euphemism for sexual relations, that's simple: there aren't any, by mutual agreement."

[Tethras Clan]

Zevran coughs a little. "Ah. Yes it is. And many consider asking about such to be very awkward and even offensive."

[Helene Dakesh]

"Why?" they blink. "Is obtaining useful information not more important than politeness?"

[Tethras Clan]

"...consider it a foible of the less academic," Zevran suggests. 

[Helene Dakesh]

"Understood. Still, surely, the question will be well received, as it comes from a place of concern for her safety?"

[Tethras Clan]

"It's also intrusive, and if asked incorrectly, insulting, as it implies they have made a mistake or were careless," Zevran explains. 

[Helene Dakesh]

"Oh! But..." Helene frowns, once again butting up against the idea that propriety can restrict an earnest attempt to gather knowledge. They're familiar with the idea, from long practice, but nothing can make them like it. "perhaps if this one said this one were doinga survey, researching sexual habits among half-elven females..."

[Tethras Clan]

Zevran chuckles lightly. "I... suspect that they might guess the actual reason for your questioning," he says dryly. He pauses. "Though I must admit that the idea of such a survey is somewhat intriguing."

[Helene Dakesh]

"Is it? This one wonders if this data has ever been collected. Perhaps the survey should be no ploy at all."

[Tethras Clan]

"Shame to limit it to just merikos elves," Zevran suggests with a grin. "I would be happy to help you construct the questions."

Their eyes shine. "Of course! This one appreciates the assistance."

When Merrill turns up at the door the next morning, however, her plans are rapidly stymied. Cindy answers the door, but she looks exhausted, as if she hasn't slept much at all.

"Oh, good morning," she says, stifling a yawn. "I'm afraid Liz isn't well today. Perhaps she'll be ready to go with you on the morrow?"

"Oh that's a pity," Merrill says with a look of sadness. "Is she in her room or...?" she continues, slowly drifting forward.

"I think she's finally gone to sleep. You're welcome to some tea if you like." She steps aside, yawning once more.
