"That is a plan," Marian points out. "Sneak into the undercity, come up near Temple Street, head to Living Waters. Plan."

Helene Dakesh

"Is this undercity like the undercity in Draslina?" asks Helene, slightly alarmed.
"Explain. In detail, please and thank you."

Varric

''Yeah, yeah. Plans have steps and details, that's an idea at best. Anyway, you want to go in together? Shouldn't be heard to pass us off as a scribe and his apprentice.'' A pause, then a glance at Helene. ''Yes and no. Nyra's is about three times the size and goes way, way deeper.''

Helene Dakesh

"Absolutely not. Marian, you are forbidden to travel to this undercity." Helene's voice is firm.
"Explain. In detail, please and thank you."

Marian Hawke

Marian hangs her head. "Yessum," she says quietly. "So... what should I do instead?"
Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.

Haliel Lightsong

''What about Varric's suggestion? About the two of you just going through the gates as scribes? Or maybe father and daughter?''
I am the Light of My Soul.

Varric

''I am deeply impressed that you said that with a straight face,'' Varric marvels.

Marian Hawke

"...I'm worried I'll be recognized," she admits. "I'm um. Not exactly welcome, you understand."
Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.

Varric

''That sounds like a sentence that also needs context.'' A beat. ''Lots of it.''

Marian Hawke

Marian flushes, looking away. "It's just... when we were in Draslina, when Helene was... was away, I got a letter from a Light. Lady zi'Amell. She uh. She said not to return."
Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.

Varric

''Why did you suggest a place where one of the rulers of said place felt it needed to personally disinvite you?''

Marian Hawke

Marian hesitates, twirling a lock of her hair around her finger. "I uh. I have... unfinished business here," she says, shifting a little.
Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.

Helene Dakesh

Helene gives a sidelong look. This is sounding more and more like an Adventurer Tale. Perhaps Smuggler's Cove, where the hero has to break into Glaley to retrieve the hidden buried treasure he left behind when he was thrown out.
"Explain. In detail, please and thank you."

Haliel Lightsong

Lightsong frowns a little, clearly realizing that Marian doesn't want to explain but not understanding why. ''Miss Marian... Is there... is there a reason why you do not wish to speak on this matter?''
I am the Light of My Soul.

Marian Hawke

"It's.. um..."

It's a different thing, talking about my family when they're leagues away, and talking about them when people can get to them. I saw what Varric did to protect Helene, or heard about it at least. I don't want anyone doing anything to my family. And.. it hurts more, being almost home. It's more... it feels wrong, not being able to go to the house, not ever seeing my siblings again. I want to know what I'm doing about it before I get other people involved.

"It's a little more complicated than I told you earlier," she says instead. "And it's safest if you all don't know anything if they ask, you know?"
Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.
