Leandra Hawke ne Amell

"-is also fifteen today of course, and I am pleased to say that she is well on her way onto becoming a woman true." Which is noble for being old enough for open courting.

Bethany

"I am sure that the many fine young men of the nobility are pleased to here that. Further, I hope that it helps soothe the sting of my next piece of news. My daring Carol has already found her perfect match! I have the absolute delight of introducing you all to my future goodson, Jadan Delasso!"

Bethany

"Manipulative fuck," Beth mumbles sourly.

Shannon zi'Marass

"Hey. Careful," Shannon murmurs.

Marian Hawke

What.

Marian stares, holding the pup. I mean, I like the guy, don't get me wrong, but he's old enough to be her father. Has to be! I mean, he's an elf, but.. How can he look at a fifteen year old human girl and think, that's what I want? That's just... Ew.

She can't suppress the smallest shudder, burying her face against the pup.
Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.

Beaming, she reaches over to rest a hand on Jadan's shoulder. "For years now, Jadan has been my truest and most trusted advisor, guiding the Amell family fortune into greater and greater heights. Furthermore, he has been mentor to my daughters and friend to my dearly departed brother. I could not wish for more in a goodson, but he is also handsome, generous and kind. Jadan, would you like to say a few words?"

Bethany

"Gods. You can't even see where his hand goes in her as-"

Shannon zi'Marass

"Beth!" Shannon hisses, looking around quickly to see if anyone overheard.

Jadan's eyes slide to Beth, and in so doing, note Marian's face. She's going to be a problem. "Of course," he says, standing smoothly. "Thank you, my dear. It is truly an honor to be joining one of the noble, ancient houses of the Lights. In my years of service, I have grown to care very much for my sweet Carol. I look forward to a long and happy marriage; though her years will be shorter than my own, they will be the best years of my life, I am quite certain."

Carver Amell

Carol smiles, leaning against a tree in the yard. He's so thoughtful!

Bethany

"I know, I know. I just... it sucks is all. I know he's wrong for Car, even if I can't explain why." Beth sighs again. "Anyway. Wanna see if we can sneak off with a bottle or two? Find somewhere private?"

Shannon zi'Marass

"Of course. Been a while since we... had some time together, my sweet little Beth," Shannon purrs softly. "Though maybe we should skip the wine, given what happened last time." Glass and a half and you were sobbing on my shoulder. Gods your mother sucks.

Marian Hawke

Hey! No underaged drinking, missy! And no fucking!! Gods above. What is wrong with my family?
Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.

Carver Amell

"Ah, Carol. Come in."

Carol slips into Jadan's study, surprised to see two glasses of wine laid out on the desk. "H-hello," she says, nervously swallowing.

"Please, have a seat. I thought we could celebrate our engagement. I know with all the todo today, I didn't have as much time as I'd liked to celebrate with you."

Carol smiles, blushing slightly. Barely any at all -- I didn't think he'd noticed. It's hard to believe he's really mine. His delicate hands, his long blond hair, those twinkling violet eyes... He's just so pretty. Small wonder he's the only man I've ever had eyes for.

She sits, and he hands her a glass of wine. It's not the first time she's had it, legal or not, but it's rare for Jadan to offer it to her -- and rarer for them to be alone in his study, without a chaperone. "I'm glad."

"Tell me, are you truly alright with the engagement? I don't wish to pressure you, my darling."

"You're so thoughtful," she says, as he moves to sit beside her, placing a hand on her knee.

"Your comfort is my fondest desire," he whispers, his face moving closer to hers. "Please, relax, my dear. No harm can ever come to you in my presence."

"Yes, my lord."

Carol doesn't get out of bed the next morning. Her absence is barely noticed at breakfast -- not by Jadan, who takes his meal in his study, and not by Leandra, who takes a double-dose of her medication and spends the meal humming gaily.
