Varric

Varric shrugs a little. "Well, actually, outsiders are born-- created-- knowing how to speak. Maybe it's written in the flesh? It's not perfect, there are grammatical errors."

Marian Hawke

"Great," she mutters. "I can write it, while sleeping, badly."
Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.

Varric

"Picking up a new language, or at least getting a start on it, isn't the worth thing in the world," Varric points out. "Some tiefling can only eat raw meat. Or ashes and sand."

Marian Hawke

"It's the badly part -- why can't I at least get good grammar if I'm going to get a new language for nothing?"
Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.

Varric

Snickering, Varric shakes his head. "Well, maybe you just need some practice," he replies in infernal.

Marian Hawke

"Or something," she agrees in Common.
Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.

Varric

Varric gives her a look, waiting.

Marian Hawke

Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.

Varric

"Just wondering how hard it would be for you to start learning," he replies blandly, still in infernal.

Marian Hawke

"I don't want to know Infernal. I don't want to be this way," she says, wiping angry tears from the edges of her eyes. "Sorry, bitty baby," she adds, as the babe fusses a bit, and the apology is in Infernal.
Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.

Varric

"Marian... we're talking in Infernal right now," Varric says gently. "It's not a bad thing. Speaking the language isn't evil."

Marian Hawke

Marian looks up, then, startled. "We what?" she says in Infernal, then blinks, realizing what she said. "Oh."
Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.

Varric

"Me for the last few sentence, you just for the last," he clarifies. "Seems like the knowledge is there, just needs to be coaxed out. Maybe refined."

Marian Hawke

"I don't want it," she whispers. "I don't want to be writing evil dogma and speaking Infernal and cutting holes in my trousers."
Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.

Varric

"I can understand that," Varric says quietly. "You can store your stuff in my tent if you like, while we work out this sleepwalking thing."
