Marian Hawke

"Should we... Should we get Master involved? Scry on them perhaps?"
Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.

Varric

Varric blinks twice, then nods slowly. Not used to have that sort of option on tap. ''Yeah. Yeah, that sounds like a really good plan to start with. You and I can nose around while she scrys. Well... actually... you any good at drawing?''

Marian Hawke

"Not as good as my master," she says promptly. "But reasonable enough."
Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.

Varric

''Scrying needs a focus, as I doubt Seeker met them. Don't suppose you got any hair or something of theirs today?''

Marian Hawke

She shakes her head. "Is a half-sibling enough?" she asks, hesitantly. He's probably guessed already. "I'm only a bastard, but my blood matches theirs well enough."
Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.

Varric

Varric purses his lips, then dips his head back and forth. ''Add a bit of your blood to the ink when you sketch them, should be a boon, yeah.''

Marian Hawke

She nods, then glances away. "Do you have... more questions? I'm... I'm not sure how much to tell Seek-- Master, or how much to tell Lightsong. Probably not much. But since I'm asking you for help it's only fair to repay you with some of the truth."
Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.

Varric

''...consider my help repayment for coming with us and helping look after Seeker,'' the dwarf says after a moment of intense study. ''But... is there anything, anything at all, about why they sent you away or don't want you back, that could affect our approach? How careful will they be, looking out for you? And which of them?''

Marian Hawke

"I... Truth be told I don't.. I don't quite know why," she says, and though she tries to play it off casually, her voice cracks a smidge. "I'm the Bastard, the Hawke, the reminder of my mother's greatest mistake. I'm older than her trueborn daughters, which can cause problems. And I don't have magic, not real magic, just a few inborn quirks. Not like Be-- B has. I haven't heard from the twins in years, half their lives, and Mother only wrote to inform me I wasn't welcome back."
Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.

Varric

Varric winces. ''So just her being a class-minded bitch. So probably not going to be paying too much attention to spotting you unless she has reason to. Good.'' He pauses, giving Marian a thoughtful look. ''...you ever try your hand at brewing?''

Marian Hawke

She nods. "I learned the basics at school. Wasn't my best subject but I'm competent. Why?"
Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.

Varric

''That's my magic. Not just your basic alchemical stuff, or potions, but bottled spells. Mostly self-buffs, but I have a few other tricks. This sort of game has a lot of downtime, waiting around... thought maybe you might be interested in some lessons.''

Marian Hawke

She makes a bit of a face, but nods. "It's worth trying. I doubt I'll be able to manage it, but I can try."
Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.

Varric

''Can't know unless you try. We should probably make our way back to the others. Though... wouldn't hurt to maybe hit a few general stores, see if we can get some broadsheets and read up on the family.''

Marian Hawke

Marian nods. "Yeah. Alright. Thank you again."
