"She doesn't like me that way," Marian whispers. "And.. I'd feel... It's not right. Me being with her. So. I'll see if I can talk her into forgetting the whole thing ever happened."
Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.

Varric

A flash of soft brown eyes set in a stubborn yet welcome face, a smudge of soot over one eye half-rubbed away. Varric coughs, busying himself at his desk. "Not right... why?" he manages.

Marian Hawke

"She's... she's not like other girls, is she? She's... I've seen Aasimar before, but she's... more so. Special."
Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.

Varric

You got it bad, girlie.. He manages not to think of... "She is a bit... extra. Good and bad. Well, not bad bad, just... inconvenient sometimes." And amusing. Mostly amusing. "Still, you're a cut or three above standard issue yourself."

Marian Hawke

"Hardly," she says, shaking her head. "No, I mean... she's like Glory. Uh, Glory Lightsong, her mum. I don't know if you've ever seen her, or Ben for that matter, but they're... wow. Just. Wow. You can feel the power of Bastion rolling off them. They're larger than life. She's like a single ray of that light, solidified into a girl. Waiting for her chance to burst forth and become something more than mortal."
Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.

Varric

That was adorably precious. A bit creepy but precious. "Yeah... okay. But no-one can be complete with just the one god. Mortals- even aasimar- aren't built like that, it isn't healthy. So... sure, she's concentrated Bastion water or whatever but maybe she could do with a bit of Ciren and Astea in her life."

Marian Hawke

At the latter name, Marian twitches faintly, keeping her head in her hands. "Sure."
Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.

Varric

"Marian?" Varric prods, interested in that reaction.

Marian Hawke

She lifts her head from her hands. Marian, not Tabby? "'mfine."

She takes a deep breath, lets it out. "We should focus on Carol."
Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.

Varric

"Not much to do about that right now- I wanna know why Astea- there it is again, smaller but there- makes you twitch."

Marian Hawke

She winces. "Astea is Mother's god."
Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.

Varric

"Uh-huh. That wasn't disdain or scorn. And like hells your mother is Astea. Naugrix maybe. Zanon seems most likely."

Marian Hawke

"My family's always been Astean. It's... fine, I guess. For most people. But I'm... well, as you've likely guessed, I'm sapphic. So I can't be Astean. That's all."
Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.

Varric

Varric tilts his head to the side. "Okay, you'll have to explain that one," he admits.

Marian Hawke

"Astea is about Love and so on, right? But there's a huge gotcha involved -- you have to love correctly. The Love that brings Life. Ciren will let you fuck anyone, but Astea and Bastion are more... family-oriented. So. I'm sapphic, and two women don't bring about Life without magic involved. Nor two men. Nor all sorts of incestuous lust, lusting after children, cross-species lust that doesn't involve humans, anything that's sterile or predatory."
Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.
