Bethany

Her mind flicking back to a certain dusky-skinned merikos, Beth blushes faintly. "I... have had far more good examples of merikos than bad, yes. What did you study?"

Marian Hawke

"General schooling until I was fourteen, then an apprenticeship until I came of age. I have the training for a scribe, but I found I'd rather be doing this."
Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.

Bethany

"That must have been nice- an Alydran education, I mean. Nyra is a wonder, of course, but only if you study magic. Better than Glaley of course, except etiquette and seafaring admittedly. And you have to study at an university to really dig into things," Beth says with noticeable envy.

Marian Hawke

"I suppose," Bells chuckles. "I could say the same to you: it must be nice having a twin, a family."
Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.

Bethany

"Twin, yes, fa-" Bethany coughs. "Ummm. So..." Beth glances over at other two, then lowers her voice a little. "So... about your sister..."

Marian Hawke

Marian glances at Carol before adjusting to look at Haliel. "Yes?"
Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.

Bethany

"Is she..." Single. Too blunt. "Serious? About..." Beth nods at the other pair.

Marian Hawke

"She's always serious," says Bells, with a chuckle. "She adopts things. People, animals... anything she thinks she can help."
Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.

Bethany

Beth gives Bells a sidelong glance. "That must get... annoying. Having your sister always focused on someone or something else?"

Marian Hawke

"I suppose. I've always been self-reliant, really. It's.. better that way."
Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.

Bethany

"Because you can't miss what you never had?" How I wish that were true.

Marian Hawke

"I suppose." If only it were true.
Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.

Bethany

"Does she... have any other strays she's tending to at the moment?" Beth probes causually.

Marian Hawke

"Yes -- she's hired a cat, if you can believe that, as her assistant and guide. So far she seems to be on the up and up but you know how cats are."
Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.

Bethany

Beth turns to look at Bells, a frown forming as she does so. "Oh?" Zevran is my only real friend, but the servants and servants' kids were often far more kind than the other nobles.
