The Amell Legacy: Transgressions

[Varric]

The dwarf comes to a sudden stop, eyeing the two. "...I miss something?"

[Helene Dakesh]

"This one's apprentice has run off, or perhaps has simply missed an appointment. This one can scry for her location if she does not turn up tomorrow, but this one has research to do now, and in any event has no scrying prepared, as it has been used. Ray Lightsong persists in assuming she is in danger despite evidence."

[Varric]

That gets a frown from the dwarf. "I'm not tracking- we do have some evidence that she is in danger. What do you have refuting it?"

[Helene Dakesh]

"Marian lies constantly about anything related to her past, her family, or her self image. As many human teenagers do, she seeks attention and pity. It is likely she is doing so now."

[Haliel Lightsong]

Lightsong takes a step back, expression stricken. "How can you- she- she adores you! She craves family and acceptance so much and- Yes, she hides herself, but because she is scared. Of being rejected, of being abandoned, of being unwanted and unloved. I- Fine. I shall save her myself." Without waiting for a reply, the paladin whirls around and pushes past Varric to leave.

[Varric]

Taking a slight step back to let her go by, the dwarf gives Helene a long look. "Well... that... happened."

[Helene Dakesh]

Helene sighs. "It will be trouble tomorrow. But at least I can get my work done now."

[Varric]

"... suppose it does," Varric says neutrally, eyes blank. "What's your plan for tomorrow's trouble?"

[Helene Dakesh]

"Avoid it," she says flatly. "perhaps I shall do my research elsewhere. Or request a private room."

[Varric]

"Not going to help your apprentice at all?"

[Helene Dakesh]

"Why? She doesn't need it. And she seems to have decided she's graduated her apprenticeship anyhow."

[Varric]

"How do you figure that?" The hells is going on here? Which is all this coming from?

[Helene Dakesh]

"She hasn't spent time researching with me since she came of age -- her real birthday, not the false one the school gave me. She thinks I don't know, but I do."

[Varric]

"That would sting a bit," Varric admits with a sigh. Still... Have you asked? Or offered to research with her? 

[Helene Dakesh]

"Perhaps. I have chosen to respect her wishes on the matter and get on with my own work." Helene shrugs, reaching for a different volume. Perhaps it isn't Infernal but the somewhat similar Undercommon.
