"Lack, not loss," she mumbles. "I don't deserve parents anyway. It would be cruel to someone to make them raise something like me."

Marian Hawke

The brisk temperature around them lowers further. "I see," says Marian, slowly. "A bastard like me, then?"
Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.

Haliel Lightsong

"You are- there is nothing wrong with either of you!" Lightsong snaps. "Everyone deserves the love of parents, of family and friends."
I am the Light of My Soul.

Merrill

The elf flinches, curling up as if to protect herself.

Marian Hawke

"Don't mind her," says Marian, cheerily. "She's just like that. I'm Marian."
Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.

Haliel Lightsong

Lightsong blushes a little, ducking her head. "Sorry, I... paladin moment?"
I am the Light of My Soul.

Merrill

The elf relaxes a little and resumes dabbing uselessly at herself, as if she doesn't actually care about herself.

Marian Hawke

"Is there someplace you can bathe nearby? We'll bring your friend with us, of course."
Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.

Haliel Lightsong

"We have soaps and lotions to help you get cleaned up properly as well," Lightsong says encouragingly. "Marian and I can help if you need it or just stand watch or..."
I am the Light of My Soul.

Merrill

"Okay," the elf mumbles obediently.

Marian Hawke

Marian frowns slightly before plastering on a smile. "Great! Let's get you cleaned up. Does your little friend need anything? Food, a nap...?"
Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.

Merrill

"I don't know," the elf says softly, peeking at the dragonling, who is peering at her in turn. She smiles faintly, just for a moment, at the curious noise the magical creature makes. "I... I found her this morning. She was...." She swallows. "She was sleeping under a bush, all dirty and alone. Like..." Like I was. Abandoned maybe, like...

Marian Hawke

"Well, sounds like she might like some food. When was the last time you ate anything? We can feed you both if you want." Homeless, I'd wager, both of them.
Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.

Merrill

"This morning." I'm very good at finding berries and windblown chestnuts these days. The visibility of her ribs indicates that she might have eaten recently but it's not well. She bites her lip. They're probably just pranking me... or they want something but... Even if it's not real, it... it might be nice. To pretend for a little while that someone cares. "Thank you."

Varric

"You get a look at the people that attacked her?" Varric asks Carol softly. "Or anything to track them down or prove they were here?"
