The Amell Legacy: Transgressions

Marian Hawke

"Try going without for a month and then tell me they're worthless," snaps Marian.
Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.

Bethany

"I never said they were worthless."

Marian Hawke

"You have everything and you're so quick to throw it away for impossible dreams. Grow up already!"
Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.

Bethany

Beth flinches as if struck. "You have no idea-" She takes a deep breath. "Maybe you should try and actually get to know me and what my life was like before you start trying to control me? Run my life and tell me I'm worthless?"

Marian Hawke

Marian takes a deep breath, forcing herself calmer. "I know you don't remember when we were kids, but I do. I've seen your life, Beth, both then and now. I'm not saying it was all roses and fine wines. But you'd never been camping until we ran off together, let alone homeless. You've never had to work for a living. You've never even been taught by someone who didn't have a vested interest in proving you're a good student. You've never had to deal with people, not ordinary ones -- never had to draw your own bath or cook your own food. You need to learn before you go making decisions you can't take back."
Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.

Bethany

Beth scowls and takes a deep breath to start her reply when a sharp whistle hits the clearing. Jumping, her head snaps around to see- "Varric? When did-"

Vigile

"Approximately a minute ago," Viligle comments absently as he grooms. He had been ready to intervene if their talk had gotten physical but had otherwise been willing to let them settle things.
I, His-paws-are-silent-but-his-growl-is-fierce-in-defense-of-the-righteous, sworn to the service of the Vigilant Protector, HE-THAT-IS-VANGAL.  Or Táchosadhachtáfháslógíocharigcosainadílis for short.

Varric

"The two of you were pretty... distracted," he says diplomatically. "Seemed to have gotten into a rather heated debate there"

Marian Hawke

Marian glances over, turning away just as he registers the tears brewing in her eyes. "Whatever. I'm going for a walk."
Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.

Varric

"Kind of curious about her answer," Varric says smoothly. "I mean, I kind of like the idea of the tavern. Been to a few of that sort, they can be alright. But... you have any idea on how to get there? Financing, inventory, hiring, cooking, serving... I think you'd be fine with the social aspect of it but..."

Bethany

Her scowl changes targets and she flushes. "I- not yet. I- I mean, I know... some of that, I just-" Beth turns her head, horribly embarrassed. It was one thing to be in a heated argument with her sister but being caught at it? Then having her dream poked apart by a second person, and a relative stranger at that?

Marian Hawke

"I just don't want you to get hurt. Is that to much to hope for? That you won't throw yourself headfirst into something dangerous you know nothing about?"
Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.

Bethany

Beth hunches her shoulders, then sags. "No, of course not," she admits softly. "I just... It hurt, you being so... dismissive. I...  haven't talked about that before with anyone and..." She winces. "I guess it might be... more complicated than I... considered."

Varric

"Yeah... owning a business is just a little complicated," Varric says with a straight face.

Marian Hawke

"And birds jump well," adds Marian. "Did you know half of new businesses fail inside of five years? The less employees you have, the worst your odds."
Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.
