Bethany

"But I shouldn't have-" Beth angrily rubs at her eyes. "Sorry, I just- I can't... it makes me so sick and ashamed that..." She sniffles a little. "Did..." She bites her lip, not sure how- or even if she should- to ask if Marian had enjoyed any part of what was done to her.

Marian Hawke

"It was different," she says, curtly. "The two cases were nothing alike. I-- You can't judge by-- You just have to keep your head up and keep moving forward as best you can. I, um, I never had sex with anyone willingly before Isabela. So I have no idea what I like."
Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.

Bethany

"Right, right, I just- Sorry," Beth says weakly. Desperate for a topic change, Beth blurts out, "speaking of Isabela- nothing you two- or you three, come to think of it- stood out as above and beyond the wonder of having those two gorgeous beings naked and sweaty against you?"

Marian Hawke

Still, she watches Carver, not looking back. "I guess?"
Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.

Bethany

"...are you alright?" Beth asks, then winces. "Sorry, stupid question after my little freak out and- and everything."

Marian Hawke

"..No," she says quietly, rubbing her face. "Beth, I don't-- I want to give you advice, I really do, but I don't know how to help someone like you. I don't know how to help anyone. I'm sorry I'm a shitty big sister."
Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.

Bethany

"...I'll take a hug instead," Bethany says in a small voice. "I mean, if you don't mind," she adds quickly.

Marian Hawke

Marian drapes an arm around her sister, pulling her close. "Of course. I'm sorry."
Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.

Bethany

"It's okay," Beth sighs into the crook of Marian's shoulder. "We're both really new to this. Carver... you really don't need the type of sister I was for him. Not sure he needs that sister any more either..." she adds in a small voice. "But this is nice."

Marian Hawke

"I don't know," says Marian, with a sigh. "I'm... not what you think I am, I think. For starters, I lie. A lot."
Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.

Bethany

"And I'm bitchy, also a lot," Beth admits. "I think... I think we just have to promise to keep trying. And to forgive each other if the other one makes a mistake."

Marian Hawke

But Marian shakes her head. "No, that's not what I-- I just mean-- Nevermind."
Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.

Bethany

"Hey," Beth protests. "Talk to me? Please?"

Marian Hawke

She swallows. "It's just-- you said I don't need the k-kind of help Carol did-- I... Things aren't... I lie a lot. About how I'm doing, I mean. I was thinking maybe Carol did too-- maybe that's why I never knew."
Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.

Bethany

"You mean..." Beth bites her lip, mulling that over, wanting to say this right, now fast. "Do you mean about... what you've said about... tall places? Or about... are you a boy too?"
