The Amell Legacy: Transgressions

[Carver Amell]

"O-oh... um... that's... okay... I'm r-really s-sorry, I w-won't ask a-again..." 

His voice shrinks until it's a mumble as he backs away. "H-have a g-good d-day," he whispers, cheeks and eyes burning. 

[Merrill]

"Is that all you-" Merrill cuts herself off, bracing as if for a blow at having raised her voice, spoken strongly. In her lap, Hunter wriggles a bit and lets out a loud whine.

[Carver Amell]

He makes a pained face. "I-- I d-don't-- I d-d-didn't-- m-mean t-to-- I d-d-didn't m-mean to h-hurt y-you-- I d-didn't..."

He wipes at his eyes, furiously. "I h-h-have to g-go, I'm s-sorry," he whispers, still backing away.

[Merrill]

"I'm-sorry-please-don't-be-mad-I-really-like-you," she says all in a single sharp exhalation of breath.

[Carver Amell]

He nods, twice, accepting her apology, then he turns and flees, wiping at his eyes furiously. Stupid, stupid! Boys don't cry. Stop crying!! Be a man!


"Can we have a card game night again?" Carver had asked, and his voice was so soft, so hesitant, it was almost impossible for Varric to say no. It's clear the lad is hungry for guidance and acceptance, and just as clear he has some ulterior motive, so Varric had rounded up Roland and tucked them away in a room to play cards and talk.

At first, Carver seems normal -- quiet, pensive, as though there's something weighing on him, but not eager to speak about it. Then, all at once, just after playing a card, he blurts out, "Is it bad to want to have sex with girls?"

[NPCs]

Varric slips out of his chair with a grunted, "drink run," leaving Roland to handle that explosive rune on his own. Roland grins, tossing a short, pithy phrase after the dwarf. "Nah, wanting to have sex with girls, boys or anything in between is just fine. Yer approach can be bad, yer particular choice can be bad and your actual skills can be bad, but wanting to have sex? Perfectly normal. Merrill I suspect? Or that pretty aasimar Ray?"

[Carver Amell]

He blushes a little, glancing down at his cards. "It's just... she said it was b-bad. That it... that it h-hurts girls."

[NPCs]

"Sex is like most everything- it can be good or bad. Depends on the persons involved and how they go about it. Merrill's been hurt bad, so you'd have to go slow and soft. Earn her trust- probably a few times. Girl's been burnt so often she expects to be hurt as a matter of course." He gives Carver a long look. "Why her? More than one pretty girl in town near her age. Pretty boys too. Merrill will take a lot of hard work to love. If all her looking for is a tumble or two..."

[Carver Amell]

He hesitates. "I--- I don't know, I just -- I just l-like her," he whispers. "Is that bad? I don't want to hurt her or, or make her do anything bad... I just offered... I just suggested... I wanted to... I wanted to get engaged."

[NPCs]

Roland coughs lightly, wishing that Varric was actually going to come back with more drinks. "Engaged? Bit... fast, isn't it?"

[Carver Amell]

He blinks. "But she doesn't have parents to ask? So..."

[NPCs]

"Not sure where you're going with that," Roland admits. "I think maybe... how about this? Go ahead and explain to me what you done, what you want to do and what you're hoping to get to happen and I'll see what advice or whatnot I can give you about alla it."

[Carver Amell]

"Well, um... last time I got engaged..." he says, hesitantly. "My fiance asked my mother, since I didn't have a father anymore, and she said yes, so we were engaged. But Merrill doesn't have parents to ask, so I asked her directly. We can't get married until I'm of age so I figured we'd get engaged so we can, um, spend time together and, um, fool around some? But she says that's bad, I shouldn't want it, and..."

[NPCs]

Roland holds up a hand. "Hold up a bit there. That's what ya done, and most of what you want, good. Now, you interested in Merrill specifically or is she just what's around as an option, most of the ladies of your company being related or dating your relations?"

[Carver Amell]

"I.. I like Merrill," he whispers. "She's.. I want to protect her."
