The Amell Legacy: Transgressions

Carver Amell

"I won't go," insists Carver again. "I won't. Let them all rot. Nobody in Nyra did anything to help me, they can figure their own problems out."

Bethany

Beth lets out a soft, pained gasp. Her estate- her entire estate? Not- I know she- but nothing? No, she must have just- Vallen must just be simplifying it for now. Mother wouldn't have... would she?

Aveline Vallen

Vallen frowns slightly, studying Carver carefully. "Help you?" she asks carefully. "I assume... you are referring to something to do with your new form?"
The Law cannot protect anyone, if it does not apply to everyone.

Carver Amell

"I took poison," he growls. "I nearly died. Beth had to save me, she got me out of Nyra and to here where I could be fixed. I won't go back, not ever. They didn't care if I died, they can rot in the nine hells."

Aveline Vallen

Vallen stiffens, eyes blazing. "Poi- what in Vangal's name-"
The Law cannot protect anyone, if it does not apply to everyone.

Bethany

"Our loving uncle," Bethany sneers, "was an abusive asshole that-" Beth sucks in a steadying breath. "He might only only rarely raised a hand to us, but there are a lot of ways to hurt people without doing them a single injury."

Carver Amell

"Vangal never helped me neither," spits Carver. "I was suffering. For years. Mother prayed to Astea all the time, and so did I, and nothing changed until Beth got me here. Dau knew right away what was wrong with me, and he helped. I'm switching to Raplin and staying here with Beth where it's safe."

Bethany

Beth glances at Carver, surprised- and yet not- by Carver's new choice of faith. Dua makes a thoughtful noise but doesn't comment.

Aveline Vallen

"Did you ask?" Vallen asks softly, eyes pained. "Did someone ignore your plea?" That question has a bit of bite to it, a promise that if Carver or Beth give a name, she'll be seeing to the education of the offending party.
The Law cannot protect anyone, if it does not apply to everyone.

Carver Amell

"How could I? I never hid it, not once, but I wasn't ever left alone, I couldn't go for help if I had a guard on me to make sure I behaved."

Bethany

Beth blanches, looking down at the ground. "...I could have," Beth realizes dully. "I snuck out a bunch of times. It... it wasn't hard really. They didn't care as much about me so... And Zev taught me... I just... it just never occurred to me that someone might... help. I was so used to keeping it a secret, to covering it up that..."

Carver Amell

"I hated being the heir," says Carver, his voice dull. "if it was up to me, Beth could have it. Everything. The inheritance, the seat, everything."

Aveline Vallen

Aveline studies him for a long moment. "Leandra zi'Amell left you everything in trust, save for some bequeathments to various charities," she says delicately, wincing at Beth's inadequately muffled sob.. "You can't... change ownership of it until you're of age. But after that, you can do whatever you wish with the estate within the bounds of the law. Including passing it on to someone else."
The Law cannot protect anyone, if it does not apply to everyone.

Carver Amell

"Fine. I'll sign a paper saying the whole estate goes to Raplin when I'm of age, and someone else can be the Light. I don't care. I won't help people that didn't help me. The Lights are cruel and corrupt and I hate all of them. I'm glad Mother's dead."

Bethany

His voice, his dull, empty but somehow suffering voice, finally drags Beth away from her own pain and heartbreak. Long trained habit and honed instinct send her to him, wrapping her arms around her twin and rocking slightly. "I'm here, ma'win. I'm here," she whispers.
