She blushes, flinching just a little. "alright. You win," she says, with a crooked smile.

"I like winning," Haliel announces, eyes crinkling from her smile. "Now come on, eat."

Haliel pauses a moment, humming. "...I liked that too," she murmurs, shaking her head as she stands to get the bowl she'd brought for Marian again.
I am the Light of My Soul.

Normally when Little Ricky cries in the middle of the night, Varric's up in a flash to get him, soothe him, feed him. But it just so happens that tonight, he wakes up just as Varric is peeing in the bushes nearby.

He stops crying fairly quickly anyhow, panicking the dwarf. When he returns, however, he finds not a strange intruder, but Marian, holding the babe up as if to burp him. The infant has grabbed hold of one of her wing joints and stuffed the bony, finger-like end of it into his mouth, sucking on it as a pacifier; Marian bounces him a little, boiling water to heat a bottle over the campfire.

Varric

Varric freezes at the edge of the camp, watching with bated breath. She looks... content. A little hesitant about how to prepare things (how to hold him) but... content. She looks good this way. It's a sin she was never allowed to really be a big sister. The way that her tail alternates between poking at the fire to help it along and ticking the baby's feet-- much to his giggling delight-- is a bit unnerving but very interesting. And a touch sweet.

Marian Hawke

Marian smacks her own tail absently, adjusting the babe. "Stop that," she scolds it. "You'll make him more awake."

Varric

Her tail twists away, wrapping around her thigh for a few seconds. Just as she refocuses on the fire, the tail uncurls and smacks her on the ass. The fuck? Did she not just argue with herself, but also punish herself? And then retaliate? Expression thoughtful, Varric slowly approaches the pair.

Marian Hawke

"Damn tail," she mutters, bouncing the babe. "Damn body. Damn everything. Why did I think I could trick Mileen?" She sighs, shifting shoulders as she turns to pace a little. "Bitty baby, don't ever try to trick gods, no you shouldn't," she coos, then stops dead as she turns and spies Varric. "Oh. Hi. Uh. You probably want this." She starts to hold Ricky out to him.

Varric

"You seem to have it covered," he demurs, not lifting his hands. "Besides, he should get to know his godmother."

Marian Hawke

"I--- you're sure? Given... you know? All this?"
Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.

Varric

"Yeah." Varric snickers a little at her expression. "Would have picked you before, don't see a reason to change it now. Besides, having a half-fiend to offer advice to a tiefling seems wise."

Varric

Varric makes a bit of a face. Ick. "Probably? Devil anyway. I mean, his devil side comes from the same ritual, so it would make sense that his flesh was being readied for the same devil as your flesh was half changed into."

Marian Hawke

She shudders. "I can't imagine. Do you think he'll be... like me? Or-- I guess maybe not until puberty?"
Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.
