Marian Hawke

Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.

Varric

"Well that's just a lot terrifying," Varric mumbles, covering his face with one hand. "I have an infant pyrophile."

Marian Hawke

"I mean, it can't hurt him. Or me. I can get him out if he like, crawls into the campfire."
Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.

Varric

Varric stares a long moment. "That's very fair. And I do have an extract to give myself temporary fire resistance... but I think I might want to invest in some magical items."

Marian Hawke

"Never a bad plan," admits Marian.
Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.

Varric

"It'd be a good investment. Clearly out of the adventurer game, given that by the time he's grown, I'll be retired, but fires are a thing for regular people too."

Marian Hawke

"You will?" asks Marian, hesitantly. "How long until he's grown?"
Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.

Varric

"Tieflings are considered of age after fifty years. I'd only be a hundred and thirty or so, but it's not like I'm without other paths. With the resources I have, I can make a very comfortable fortune or ten that way instead of risking my life." He smiles at the pair, at how unthinkingly at ease Marian is adjusting Ricky to take his bottle. "Got too much to lose these days."

Marian Hawke

"I'll be middle-aged, by the time he's a teen," she says, hesitantly.
Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.

Varric

Frowning slightly, Varric gives her a puzzled glance. "How do you figure?"

Marian Hawke

Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.

Varric

"Merkios, don't put yourself down," Varric chides her. "And you were. Now you're more. You're running on tiefling time or better. Fifty years from now you won't even be halfway to middle aged." He pauses, then adds, "you're basically Shiny's age."

Marian Hawke

"I-- oh." Marian sits down, then, still careful to continue feeding the baby. "Oh."
Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.

Varric

The dwarf winces a bit. "Sorry, I thought you'd realized that already. Is it a bad thing? Or is it more 'yet another change in my topsy turvy life of chaos?'"

Marian Hawke

"Basically that, with a side order of Wolf and Rain," she admits, citing a famous play about an elf and a goblin siblings. "Beth and Carver are human."
Honesty. Openness. Trust. Not being stabbed in the gut with a sword.
