Guards and Order

Go Down

Solras, The Protector

"We were patrolling as ordered. When it was observed that the streets were quieter than expected the corporal directed us to start searching businesses and chose a house of negotiable affection to start with. It was clear that he was well known there, It was ordered that the men each take a room to search solo. I reminded him of standard procedure and he refused to readjust his plan. since it was clear that he was planning to behave in a manner unbecoming of the guard I asked him to step down, he refused, I insisted." That's a good start, and..... aveline's probably going to want to yell at her for this so far so Solras pauses briefly in anticipation of the interruption.

Aveline Vallen

"Continue," Vallen says, voice chilly but even. She's not going to interrupt? That's probably a very bad sign.
The Law cannot protect anyone, if it does not apply to everyone.

Solras, The Protector

"Well, after I insisted he stand down he drew arms on me, so we.... brought him down and arrested him. I have statements from the civilians that helped us and the store owner showing he often visited in uniform. Also on our way back we found this cat we have good reason to believe was the target of tonight's search."

Aveline Vallen

There's a long pause, as if she's waiting for more. "And what crime did Cpl. Janus commit?"
The Law cannot protect anyone, if it does not apply to everyone.

Solras, The Protector

Solras, the protector blinks, that should be obvious. "Why, drawing arms on a member of the guard in the course of their duties. With additional charges of conduct unbecoming and officer of the peace, willfully violating standing orders, and accepting and/or inciting graft. As well as any other relevant charges discovered during interrogation and investigation."

Wylde

Wylde winces. "Uh, he didn't draw arms until I did," she admits. "And you were threatening him before then."

Aveline Vallen

"So the only thing he actually did was break procedural doctrine on search procedures in hostile ground." Vallen holds up a hand. "Appearing to be overly familiar or known to a potentially illegal brothel is grounds for an investigation, not an arrest. One that would be handled by a sergeant, not a private."
The Law cannot protect anyone, if it does not apply to everyone.

Solras, The Protector

Solras bristles at this. What she did was right and correct an honorable! "There was no sergeant available, nore could one be brought onto the scene in time to prevent dishonorable conduct while in the service of the peace."

Aveline Vallen

"But he didn't do anything illegal!" Aveline snaps at her. "He might have, he probably planned to, but he didn't! You had no cause to mutiny as you did! You not only broke chain of command in a combat zone because of a faint suspicion, you attacked and injured your own squad."
The Law cannot protect anyone, if it does not apply to everyone.

Wylde

Wylde winces again, a soft whine coming from the back of her throat. "But you said..."

Solras, The Protector

"He was going to, and saying that we had to wait until he dropped his pants and started waving it about on duty to do something about it would not be serving the civilians he and his cronies planned on having their way with. That's not how you protect people."

Aveline Vallen

Vallen growls softly. "But you can't know he was, not anymore than- than a guard can know a catfolk is going to steal something just because he lingers in a store without buying something. You're applying the same reasoning, Private. I said to uphold the honor of the guard. I get that you thought you were doing the right thing. But you crossed a line." She snorts. "Lines."
The Law cannot protect anyone, if it does not apply to everyone.

Solras, The Protector

"You did not see the look on his face, nor the tone in his voice. there was no mistaking his intent, Sir. I cannot tell if someone is going to steal by looking how they linger in a store, they may just be hungry, or they may be waiting for someone. Nor I cannot mistake that expression of lust, or the intent to slake that thirst."

Solras, the protector, salutes then. And falls mute, ready to hear the order to remove her badge and either be arrested herself or to get the hell out of the Sergeant's guardhouse.

Aveline Vallen

"But intent isn't a crime, Solras," Aveline says quietly. "You should have been smarter about this. Noble intentions only go so far." She sighs, trying to think of a way out of this for them. Or at least someway to reduce the fallout. "You're both suspended indefinitely, without pay. Turn in your weapons and uniforms in. You're not under arrest," she's kind enough to not say the word 'yet' out loud, "but you're both on restricted movement. Don't leave Bedrock without getting permission from Captain Vorce. Do you understand?"
The Law cannot protect anyone, if it does not apply to everyone.

Wylde

Wylde winces with a whine. "I need this job," she moans. "How am I supposed to pay rent?"
